About the role
We are looking for an innovative and passionate Civil Design Engineer to support Primary and Grid Substation projects (11kV–132kV) from concept through to commissioning. You will work developing detailed civil design packs aligned with current policies and engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead civil design for indoor and open-terminal substations
- Prepare substation layouts, technical specs, and detailed drawings (AutoCAD)
- Produce concept designs and assess engineering options
- Collaborate with engineering teams and manage junior designers where applicable
- Respond to site queries during construction
- Ensure safety, constructability, and compliance in all designs
- Align designs with programme timelines, budgets, and technical standards
- Liaise with third-party providers and attend site meetings
- Continuously improve design documentation and standards
Qualifications & Skills
- HNC in Civil Engineering with 2 years' experience in a relevant discipline
- Strong problem-solving and technical design assessment skills
- Experience in transmission voltage plant and substation design (advantageous)
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or willingness to learn quickly
- Full UK driving licence & willingness to travel for site meetings
