Hybrid/Site Based | Midlands

Join a leading UK infrastructure contractor delivering one of the country's largest water investment programmes. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a major infrastructure contractor delivering projects as part of Severn Trent Waters AMP8 Capital Delivery Framework.

Working on a long-term programme of water infrastructure projects, you'll play a key role in the commercial management of projects from pre-construction through to final account, helping deliver essential infrastructure that supports millions of customers while contributing to one of the UK's largest investment programmes. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative commercial team with genuine long-term career progression and exposure to a diverse portfolio of projects.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you'll take ownership of the commercial management of allocated projects, ensuring robust cost control, contractual compliance and commercial performance throughout the project lifecycle. You'll work closely with operational teams, clients and the supply chain to maximise value, manage risk and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and profitably. This role would suit an experienced Quantity Surveyor looking to step into a senior role, or an established Senior Quantity Surveyor seeking to work on a secure, long-term infrastructure framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Commercial Management
    • Manage the commercial delivery of projects from procurement through to final account.
    • Prepare and agree applications for payment, valuations and final accounts.
    • Produce accurate monthly cost reports, forecasts, CVRs and commercial reporting.
    • Monitor project costs, cash flow and financial performance.
    • Manage change control, compensation events, variations and contractual notices.
  • Contract Administration
    • Administer construction contracts, ensuring contractual compliance throughout delivery.
    • Identify, manage and mitigate commercial risks while maximising opportunities.
    • Prepare contractual correspondence and maintain project commercial records.
    • Manage extensions of time, claims and variations where appropriate.
  • Supply Chain Management
    • Procure and manage subcontract packages.
    • Negotiate subcontract terms and commercial agreements.
    • Administer subcontract accounts through to successful final account settlement.
    • Monitor subcontractor performance and support collaborative working across the supply chain.
  • Stakeholder Management
    • Build strong working relationships with clients, project teams and supply chain partners.
    • Provide commercial advice and support to operational teams.
    • Attend commercial meetings and contribute to project decision-making.
  • Governance & Performance
    • Ensure compliance with company commercial processes and governance.
    • Support risk management and value engineering initiatives.
    • Promote continuous improvement and commercial best practice across projects.

About You

You'll be an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a strong commercial mindset and a passion for delivering major infrastructure projects.

Essential

  • Significant post-graduate Quantity Surveying experience within the construction or infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong commercial and financial management skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of NEC contracts (or other standard forms of contract).
  • Experience preparing valuations, forecasts, CVRs, cost reports and final accounts.
  • Strong understanding of subcontract procurement and commercial management.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple commercial priorities within a live project environment.
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related commercial discipline.

Desirable

  • Previous experience delivering water or utilities infrastructure projects.
  • Chartered status (MRICS/MCICES), or working towards professional accreditation.
  • Experience developing procurement strategies and managing complex supply chain packages.
  • Knowledge of AMP frameworks or regulated infrastructure environments.
