We seek a knowledgeable and skilled Remedial Plumber / Water Hygiene Engineer to join our engineering team based in Croydon. The successful candidate undertakes remedial plumbing tasks and water hygiene maintenance to ensure compliance with health and safety standards and support the integrity of water systems within a variety of commercial and residential premises. This role requires the ability to diagnose faults, carry out repairs, and perform routine inspections and testing of water systems to prevent contamination and maintain system efficiency.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct remedial plumbing repairs including pipework, valves, pumps, and associated fixtures to rectify faults and prevent water system failure.
- Carry out water hygiene inspections in accordance with industry regulations and company policies to identify risks such as legionella and microbial contamination.
- Perform water sampling, temperature monitoring, and cleaning of water systems to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
- Maintain and service water hygiene equipment such as strainers, philtres, tanks, and calorifiers to ensure optimal performance.
- Prepare detailed reports and records of inspections, maintenance activities, and remedial actions taken.
- Collaborate with clients and site managers to schedule work and communicate findings effectively.
- Adhere to health and safety protocols and ensure all work complies with current legislation and industry best practice.
- Use hand and power tools safely and competently in the execution of plumbing and maintenance tasks.
- Assist in the development of preventative maintenance programmes to reduce future remedial work.
Required Qualifications
- Relevant plumbing qualification recognised within the United Kingdom, for example City & Guilds Level 2 or equivalent.
- Certification in water hygiene or legionella control, such as the Legionella Control Association (LCA) Water Hygiene Technician course or equivalent.
Education
- Minimum of GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above in English and Mathematics, or equivalent qualifications.
Experience
- Proven experience working as a plumber with a focus on remedial work and water hygiene maintenance.
- Experience conducting water hygiene surveys, sampling, and risk assessments in compliance with UK regulations.
- Previous exposure to commercial and residential plumbing systems including hot and cold water systems.
Knowledge and Skills
- Comprehensive understanding of plumbing systems and water treatment processes.
- Familiarity with relevant legislation including the Health and Safety at Work Act, Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations, and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH).
- Strong analytical skills for diagnosing faults and determining appropriate remedial measures.
- Competence in using diagnostic tools and plumbing equipment safely and effectively.
- Good communication skills to liaise with clients and produce clear, concise reports.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail and a methodical approach to maintenance and repair work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced qualifications in plumbing or water hygiene management.
- Membership or accreditation from recognised professional bodies within the plumbing or water hygiene sectors.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) related to water hygiene monitoring.
