We are currently seeking an experienced and driven Site Agent to join a leading civil engineering team delivering a £3.5m highways scheme in Wells, Somerset. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in a high-profile infrastructure project involving the construction of roundabouts, link roads, and associated civil engineering works.

Starting on 1st June, this long-term contract offers a competitive day rate and the chance to lead site operations through to successful project completion in January 2027.

The Role

As Site Agent, you will take full responsibility for the safe, efficient, and profitable delivery of the project on site. You will oversee day-to-day operations, manage subcontractors and site teams, and ensure works are delivered in line with programme, budget, and quality expectations under the NEC4 contract framework. You'll be instrumental in driving standards across health & safety, environmental compliance, commercial performance, and stakeholder communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all on-site operations across highways and civil engineering works
  • Lead and coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and direct labour
  • Ensure delivery in line with programme, specification, and budget
  • Maintain strong commercial awareness, including cost control and value engineering
  • Produce and manage project programmes and procurement schedules
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards
  • Maintain accurate site documentation and reporting
  • Liaise effectively with clients, engineers, local authorities, and stakeholders
  • Support successful project delivery under the NEC4 form of contract

About You

We're looking for a proactive and experienced Site Agent with a strong background in highways and civil engineering projects.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Site Agent within civil engineering/highways
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC4 contracts
  • Experience managing subcontractors and site teams
  • Commercial awareness with strong cost-control capabilities
  • Ability to deliver projects valued up to £3.5m
  • Strong planning and programme management skills
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities
  • IT literate, including Microsoft Office packages
  • Thorough understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations

Qualifications & Certifications Essential

  • CSCS Card (Black) – Site Manager level
  • SMSTS
  • First Aid
