We are seeking an experienced Plant Maintenance Fitter with a strong electrical bias to maintain and repair CNC machinery, heavy plant and manufacturing equipment used in the production of railway track and track components. Please note: Candidates whose experience is primarily in rolling stock, train fleet or railway vehicle maintenance will not be suitable for this position. The focus is specifically on maintaining manufacturing plant and machinery. This is a hands-on maintenance role within a manufacturing environment, focused on keeping plant and machinery operational through planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance and effective fault diagnosis. This is a plant maintenance position, not a CNC operator or rolling stock maintenance role. We are looking for someone with substantial experience maintaining industrial machinery, ideally within a heavy manufacturing or factory environment. Ideally someone who is used to identifying faults on the CNC machinery controls, Heidenheim and Fanue. Key Responsibilities • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on CNC machinery, heavy plant and manufacturing equipment. • Diagnose and rectify electrical and mechanical faults to minimise equipment downtime. • Maintain and troubleshoot CNC machinery and associated control systems. • Identify and resolve faults involving PLCs, hydraulic systems and pneumatic systems. • Interpret electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics. • Work safely with three-phase electrical systems (400/415V). • Undertake general plant maintenance across a varied range of manufacturing equipment. • Support the reliable operation of machinery used to manufacture railway track and track components. • Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain safe and efficient plant operations. • Travel occasionally to the Long-Welded Rail Plant (LWR) when required. Essential Skills and Experience • Knowledge of CNC control systems, particularly Heidenheim and Fanuc.Proven experience as a Plant Maintenance Fitter, Maintenance Engineer or Industrial Maintenance Technician, with a strong electrical bias. • Extensive experience maintaining and fault-finding on CNC machinery. • Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills. • Some knowledge of PLC systems and fault diagnosis. • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and their associated schematics. • Familiarity with three-phase electrical systems (400/415V). • Experience undertaking both planned and reactive maintenance. • A versatile approach to maintaining a range of heavy industrial plant and machinery. • A strong team-player mentality with a proactive approach to problem-solving. Desirable Qualifications and Experience • City & Guilds electrical qualification, such as 2365 or equivalent. • Apprentice-served engineering background. • Ideally 10–15 years of relevant industrial maintenance experience. • Experience working in a manufacturing, engineering or factory environment. • MEWP (Mobile Elevating Work Platform) certification. • Mechanical maintenance experience alongside electrical expertise. The successful candidate will be an experienced, electrically biased maintenance professional who can confidently diagnose faults and maintain complex industrial machinery. They will be comfortable working across electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and will understand the importance of minimising downtime in a production environment. Candidates should have a strong background in CNC machinery maintenance rather than CNC operation / programming. TPBN1_UKTJ
