Morson Edge are delighted to present an opportunity for suitably qualified and experienced Planning Engineers with experience working in support of large, complex projects and skilled in the use of P6 to join our client’s established Planning team for work associated with a major infrastructure Project in Somerset. This role is based at our client’s office in Bridgwater and offered on a contract basis until Dec 2026, Inside IR35. Good daily rate on offer to the right candidate.
Job Purpose / Overview
The Planners perform a key role within the Integrated Planning team which encompasses Design, Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Logistics, Construction & Commissioning for the Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Instrumentation & Controls Scope of Work. The Planning Teams work within a matrix organisation supporting all the involved areas, programmes & contracts of Works.
The planners are accountable to the Area Lead Planner for planning throughout the project lifecycle, its Productivity, the quality of its outputs, their accuracy and value, the implementation of the broader HPC Planning Strategy, the provision of a bespoke-benchmark Planning Environment (Digitally enabled) and the management & control of its associated Supply Chain interfaces (contracts). The Planners are accountable for Planning and Scheduling associated with Project delivery and the integration of Project Progress and Forecasting. They have authority to make decisions relating to the maintenance of the involved data and its delivery recognising the overall objectives of the Project and competing goals.
Principal Accountabilities
- Drive an Integrated Planning framework, integrated with Reporting and Interdependencies focused on alignment of top down/bottom-up reporting from strategic levels, through Level 1 to Level 5.
- Develop and maintain the schedule baseline integrated work schedule (IWS) with fully logic-linked work plans aligned to the Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and utilising effective techniques.
- Supporting the Area management organisation to ensure that significant risks/opportunities associated with the MEH scope of works are adequately assessed based on evidence and balanced judgement to underpin regular, timely and accurate information.
- Enable robust review, challenge of delivery & schedule level reporting that impacts overall Project level strategic delivery.
- For the timely production and focussed updates of area Planning and Schedule reporting to key stakeholders, to a defined reporting cycle.
- Driving and challenging strategies for Baseline Schedule project delivery sequence.
- Continuous development of the Planning team approach by capturing and sharing operational experience and learning.
- Analysing and assimilating information to identify key risks and make evidence-based decisions to drive the Planning strategy using a pragmatic and systematic approach.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues within and across organisational boundaries to achieve mutually successful outcomes.
- Accountable for the application of the Trend & Change process within the schedule, including analysis at Project level, generating performance indicators, and providing feedback on areas of risk and opportunities.
- Integration of the MEH scope of works.
- Accountable for ensuring the project scheduling standards and procedures are being adhered to.
- Ensure all Project documents are correctly protectively marked, and protected in accordance with EDF policies and procedures.

Knowledge & Skills
- Demonstrable ability to deliver accurate and concise project insights to drive evidence-based decision making, utilising commercial and technical information, to influence project decisions and lead the management of area planning.
- Critical understanding of how the impact of changes/decisions may impact the risk profile of the project and Planning delivery.
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Effectively communicates complex issues and concepts (unique insights) in simple ways, to both technical and non-technical senior audiences.
- Control / Clear Understanding of the HPC PMO Digital Planning Platforms and functionality.
- Detailed understanding of scheduling methodologies and techniques.
- Technical and practical comprehension of EPC methods and techniques in a UK context.
- Ability to produce accurate, complete and fully logic-linked construction plans.
- Understanding of other Disciplines of Project Controls (particularly Estimating, Cost and Risk) including management techniques and associated software.
- Understanding of earned value analysis.
- Understanding of various contract types, in particular the NEC suite and FIDIC.
- Working knowledge of schedule risk analysis techniques.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of a degree or equivalent in Engineering, Construction, Quantity Surveying or other related field.
- Demonstratable experience working within a Planning team for mechanical, electrical & HVAC works in a complex, highly regulated industry (ideally nuclear or energy) working in a role, which requires active integration management with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience of practical application of Integrated Planning frameworks and methodologies, and how they are applied in the strategic and operational management of a major infrastructure project to deliver positive business outcomes.
- Expert in Planning and Project Controls technology solutions with experience of managing the implementation and effective delivery of complex projects using these software solutions.
- Proven experience of planning Mechanical, Electrical & HVAC works within highly regulated industries and complex projects.
