We are currently looking for an experienced Skilled Painter to join GKN's Industrial Paint Facility at Western Approach. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with aerospace or automotive paint spraying experience to secure a long-term contract opportunity within a world-class manufacturing environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out surface preparation, masking, paint application and finishing activities to demanding quality standards, ensuring components meet both customer and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare components for painting, including cleaning, sanding, masking and surface treatment.
  • Apply coatings using approved paint spraying techniques and processes.
  • Work to engineering drawings, specifications and standard operating procedures.
  • Carry out quality inspections and ensure work meets required standards.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment, adhering to all health and safety procedures.
  • Support production targets while maintaining a high level of workmanship and attention to detail.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Proven experience in industrial, aerospace or automotive paint spraying.
  • Strong understanding of paint preparation and application processes.
  • Ability to work accurately to detailed specifications and quality standards.
  • Experience within a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Essential Qualifications
  • Minimum NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Paint Spraying. Please ensure copies of all relevant certificates are submitted with your CV.

Working Pattern: Candidates will initially work on Core Days for several weeks to complete training and familiarisation before transferring onto the permanent night shift pattern.

Core Days
  • Monday to Friday, 7:00am - 3:00pm £19.16 per hour PAYE + holidays
Core Nights
  • Monday to Wednesday: 8:00pm - 6:00am
  • Thursday: 7:00pm - 4:30am
  • 30-minute unpaid lunch break
Rates of Pay (includes holidays)
  • Skilled Painter - Before Paint Stamp
  • Core Nights: £25.48 per hour
  • Weekday Overtime: £28.74 per hour
  • Weekend Overtime: £38.32 per hour
  • Once Paint Stamp Achieved (typically within 3-6 months)
  • Core Nights: £26.63 per hour
  • Weekday Overtime: £30.03 per hour
  • Weekend Overtime: £40.04 per hour
  • Regular overtime is available.
Interview Process
  • Face-to-face interview at the Western Approach site.
