Our client Scottish Power Transmissions are currently recruiting for 2 CAD Technicians (Electrical P&C) to join their team based in Cambuslang on a contract basis initially. Ideally for this role they are looking for experienced CAD Operators with an Electrical 2D CAD background.

ScottishPower's Drawing Office is expanding to meet growing business demands, and we are seeking a CAD Operator (Drawing Office) – (Electrical Protection & Control) Team to support these efforts. As a CAD Operator, you will be responsible for producing and updating high quality engineering drawing solutions for Transmission Network Projects (132kV and above). Reporting to the Electrical (P&C) DO Discipline Lead, you will play an important role in delivering accurate, consistent drawing outputs that meet project, safety, and compliance requirements.

The role will assist designers and engineers in delivering accurate, consistent and compliant drawing outputs for transmission and distribution projects, working to established standards and processes, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the disciplines. We are looking for a flexible, self-driven individual who is passionate about enhancing the team's knowledge and understanding of innovative solutions and designs. What you'll be doing:

  • Preparation of 2D Drawings using Autocad: Developing both feasibility and detailed design drawings for complex transmission / distribution projects.
  • Compliance: Supporting adherence to health, safety, quality, and environmental standards within project deliverables.
  • Workload Management: Responsible for organising and progressing your allocated workload efficiently.
  • Information Gathering: Collecting relevant information to produce accurate drawings.
  • Standards Promotion: Communicating and encouraging the use of drawing standards and procedures.
  • QA Systems: Ensuring your work complies with externally audited QA systems and supporting the discipline in maintaining these standards.
  • Database Maintenance: Contribute to the maintenance and upkeep of the drawing office databases.
  • Design Change System: Contribute to an auditable design/design change system to facilitate BS EN 9001 accreditation.
  • Drawing Assessment: Assessing basic and detailed drawings during approval process.
  • Team Support: Providing guidance and support to team members in their areas of expertise.
  • Client Delivery: Ensuring timely delivery of high-quality work to clients, achieving high client satisfaction.
  • Documentation Review: Preparing and reviewing drawing documentation and processes within the drawing office.
  • Communications: Keeping drawing office manager, design lead, project staff and clients updated on work progress and any issues that arise.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

What you'll bring:

  • In-depth understanding of drawing principles and health & safety requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with individuals, departments, and businesses.
  • Produce drawings, including plans, sections, elevations, schedules, and details.
  • Proficient in using Autodesk products, including but not restricted to AutoCAD 2022, Raster Design 2020, and the MS Office suite.
  • Ensure all work meets quality, accuracy, and project deadlines.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of digital processes and modelling efficiency.
  • Understanding of construction methods, regulations such as British standards (BS) and technical detailing.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent organisational abilities to ensure high client satisfaction and the ability to plan and manage conflicting requirements to meet challenging deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Contribute recommendations of continuous improvement initiatives relating to the drawing office functions and deliverables.

Minimum Criteria (mandatory)

Criteria Essential/Desirable:

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in 2D drawing production.
  • HNC in CAD or proven engineering experience within Transmission Substation Design - Drawing Office.
  • Understanding of Electrical Design drawing production.
  • A solid understanding of health and safety requirements, and compliance.
  • Working knowledge of drawing standards and procedures.
  • Skilled in using 2D Autodesk products, including AutoCAD, and the MS Office suite.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
