We are seeking an Electrical EMT Engineer for our client in Glasgow for a 6 month contract.

This role offers the successful candidate career progression to full Electrical Power System engineer role with additional training and further opportunities to progress their career within our established Transmission & Distribution team. Based on your initial knowledge you will be further developed to undertake electromagnetic transient studies including insulation coordination, transient recovery voltage, zero missing phenomena, circuit breaker switching, transformer energisation and more, playing a key role in the design of substations and other electrical assets.

Reporting to the team leader, you will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of project-related tasks to meet budget and contributing towards the achievement of the divisional business plan. As part of your role, you will be developed for conducting risk analysis of the design and identifying potential threats and risks. Using your basic understanding and provided in-house training, you assist in making recommendations on potential mitigation for any issues identified, or work with stakeholders to agree actions. The role requires a certain level of flexibility to visit site locations across the UK.

Role accountabilities:

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Working or assisting in Electromagnetic Transient Studies and analysis using the PSCAD software e.g. Insulation coordination studies and Circuit breaker switching studies (steady state and transient capability)
  • Writing technical reports.
  • Assistance in the creation of competitive proposals/quotations for new packages of work.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Have a BSc/BEng/ BEng (Hons) or MSc/MEng or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • 2+ years experience of electromagnetic transient studies using PSCAD/EMTDC software package or equivalent.
  • Familiar with power system modelling techniques, analysis and validation methodologies.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical or commercial issues to peers or senior managers.
  • Ability to develop working relationships quickly and effectively.
  • Experience in writing clear and concise documentation e.g. design and site measurements reports and drawings.

This role falls inside IR35 through an Umbrella company. The location is in Glasgow and can be 3 days in the office and 2 from home.
