Site Project Manager - Water/Wastewater in Manchester

Our client has secured a major Managed Service Provider (MSP) framework contract with United Utilities, supporting the delivery of large-scale water and wastewater asset maintenance activities across the North West of England. The framework covers 96 water treatment sites and 575 wastewater treatment facilities, serving more than six million people across the region. As a result of continued growth, our client is looking to appoint an experienced Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of planned and reactive capital works projects across the United Utilities network. This is an excellent opportunity to join a major infrastructure programme, taking ownership of a portfolio of projects while developing strong relationships with operational teams, supply chain partners and key stakeholders.

The role will suit an individual with experience in both the design and delivery of water infrastructure projects, ideally across multidisciplinary environments involving civils and MEICA.

The Role

• You will be responsible for leading the safe and efficient delivery of projects across the UU region, ensuring programmes are delivered successfully from concept through to completion, commissioning and handover.
• Working closely with operational teams, supply chain partners and internal stakeholders, you will play a key role in driving performance, maintaining compliance and delivering high-quality outcomes.
• This is a hybrid position, primarily based from Aviator Way, Manchester, with travel across offices in Warrington and sites throughout the North West, alongside home working flexibility where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and develop multidisciplinary project teams.
• Take end-to-end accountability for the successful delivery of maintenance and capital projects, from design through procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.
• Ensure supply chain partners remain compliant with framework requirements and management plans.
• Champion a strong health, safety and wellbeing culture, driving best practice and zero harm principles.
• Maintain a strong commercial focus, challenging scope where required and identifying efficient delivery strategies.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across United Utilities, operational teams and supply chain partners.
• Ensure consistent and accurate project reporting through framework management systems.
• Identify project and programme risks early, implementing mitigation strategies where required.

About You

We're looking for an experienced Project Manager with a proven track record of delivering multidisciplinary infrastructure projects, ideally within the water or utilities sector. You will be confident managing stakeholders, driving delivery performance and leading teams within complex project environments.

Essential Experience & Skills

• Previous experience managing multidisciplinary projects involving Civils and MEICA, ideally within the water sector.
• Strong track record of delivering project programmes successfully.
• Understanding of construction contracts and forms of contract gained through practical experience and/or formal training.
• Ability to build trusted relationships with clients, supply chain partners and internal teams.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Good IT skills, including MS Office, document control systems and planning software such as Primavera.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND or Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
• SMSTS or IOSH Managing Safely qualification.
• Relevant CSCS card.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
