We're recruiting on behalf of a leading technology-driven organisation to find a Senior DBA to support the delivery, maintenance and optimisation of secure, scalable, and high-performing database environments. This is a hands-on role focused on ensuring database reliability, automation, resilience, and operational excellence across business-critical platforms.

Working closely with DBA, DevOps, Platform Engineering, SRE and Development teams, you will design, implement and support robust database solutions while driving performance improvements and automation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain production and non-production database environments
  • Monitor and optimise performance, replication, backups and high-availability solution
  • Troubleshoot complex database, infrastructure and capacity issues
  • Implement upgrades, patching and security best practices
  • Develop automation for provisioning, deployment and ongoing maintenance
  • Support Infrastructure as Code and configuration management using tools such as Ansible and Terraform
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to improve observability, resilience and operational efficiency
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members
  • Participate in incident management, root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities
  • Contribute to database architecture decisions and the evaluation of new technologies

Essential Skills & Experiences

  • Strong experience with Oracle and other open source databases such as MySQL or similar relational database platforms
  • Expertise in database architecture, replication, partitioning and performance tuning
  • Linux administration and scripting experience (Bash, Shell or Python)
  • Experience with automation and Infrastructure as Code tools, including Ansible or Terraform
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across database and system layers
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and observability tooling

Desirables

  • Experience with cloud-managed database services
  • Knowledge of schema migration tools
  • Understanding of disaster recovery, retention and data protection strategies
  • Experience with monitoring platforms such as Prometheus and Grafana
