Duration: 6 month contract Location: New Malden – Occasional travel to Portsmouth 3-4 days a week onsite Rate: £53.51 per hour - Inside IR35 The Opportunity We are seeking a Software Engineer with strong VMWare experience to join the Shared Infrastructure (SI) Common Console team. Reporting to the SI Console Technical Lead, you will undertake a defined range of engineering activities in line with relevant processes, quality requirements and technical standards. The role focuses on investigating, updating, developing and testing the SI Console solution across multiple platforms. It offers broad technical exposure and hands-on involvement throughout the engineering lifecycle, from requirements capture and design through to integration, acceptance testing and in-service problem resolution. Key Responsibilities
- Undertake Shared Infrastructure systems engineering activities in accordance with relevant processes, quality requirements and technical standards.
- Carry out complex technical analyses and investigations, evaluate technical options and prepare reports with recommendations to resolve problems and improve engineering capability.
- Prepare and develop designs against specifications, and conduct design appraisals to ensure standards are maintained.
- Investigate operational issues and develop fixes and functional updates for components of the SI Console solution, working independently or as part of a project team.
- Select appropriate configurations and liaise with vendors to determine how commercial off-the-shelf products can best meet system requirements.
- Contribute to requirements capture, design, implementation, integration and testing on local target rigs.
- Support formal and customer acceptance testing, including hands-on rig activity and technical investigations.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and their potential introduction into the product portfolio. What You'll Bring
- A strong software engineering background.
- Experience of working within formal testing, ideally during acceptance testing, including rig-based testing and investigations.
- Strong analytical and diagnostic skills, with the ability to debug complex issues.
- Strong practical experience of VMware technologies.
- The ability to operate effectively in a large, complex, multi-project environment with cross-functional and distributed teams.
- Clear communication and effective interpersonal skills across written, verbal and presentation settings. Technical Experience Experience across several of the following areas would be advantageous:
