Our client Scottish Power Transmissions are currently recruiting for an Onshore Cable Installation Engineer to join their team based in Leiston on a contract basis initially. Ideally for this role they are looking for a strong Installation Engineer with a background in onshore cables work within the Renewables Industry.
Main Purpose of Job
The Installation Engineer shall be employed by the Onshore Works Department and shall be assigned to SPR projects to provide technical support to the Onshore Export Cables Packages. The main purpose of the Installation Engineer's job is to ensure that the design, manufacture, transportation, installation, and testing of the onshore export cable systems is planned and executed safely, on-time, on budget and in accordance with the projects technical requirements.

Key Responsibilities
The Installation Engineer shall be responsible for undertaking project engineering duties in accordance with the work package engineering plan, this shall include:
- Completion of engineering studies and management of consultant engineers.
- Development of technical specification, review of tender submissions and completion of technical assessments of the bids.
- Management of Contractor's engineering deliverables.
- Undertake resident engineer duties at manufacturing facility or construction site.
In addition to the project-based duties the Installation Engineer may be requested to provide technical support to the Function Manager to participate in departmental initiatives.
Key Tasks
In the period leading up to FiD the key tasks shall include but not be limited to:
- Provide assistance in the development and implementation of a project engineering plan.
- Provide assistance in the development and implementation of a Cable System Risk Management Plan.
- Coordination and preparation of technical documentation for inclusion within ITT and contract documentation package(s) and for the assessment of the received bids to provide technical recommendation into the Contractor selection process.
- Responsible for the preparation and completion of engineering studies as required by the package engineering plan and management of any internal and external services or resources that are required to deliver these tasks.
- Completion of the package specific interface tasks that are required to ensure compliance with the requirements of the project's Interface Management Plan.
- Providing technical assistance to the consenting team to assist them in discharging the project's consent conditions.
- Provide technical input to development of project quality plan and specification.
- Undertake project management and project administration duties on the request of the Package Manager.
During the execution of the works, in addition to the above, the key tasks shall include but not be limited to:
- Management of Contractor's delivery of design reports, documents/procedures and management of review process of the Contractor's documents.
- Undertake Resident Engineer duties as required at the manufacturing facility, the Contractor's premises and the onshore construction site.
- Provide detailed progress reports on a weekly/monthly basis highlighting any risks or blockers to project delivery.
- Manage interface with offshore cable installation and TJB works.
- Detailed review of Contractors quality management plan and ITP.
- Monitor cable installation contractor works to ensure it complies with specification and quality requirements.
- Identify and manage risks in relation to onshore cable installation works.
- Provide assistance with the coordination of the as-built reporting and management of the handover process to O&M.
Key Criteria
Minimum Criteria (Mandatory)
- Specific onshore cable installation experience gained within renewables industry.
- Proven ability to work in a team environment with a solid grasp of engineering control in large-scale project delivery environment.
- Knowledge and experience of construction health and safety requirements.
- Computer literate with knowledge and experience of Microsoft applications.
- Self-motivated, with effective personal organisation and planning skills.
- English speaking.

The candidate should also possess:
- Excellent project engineering, inter-personal and communications skills.
- In depth knowledge of current standards and guidelines for the installation of onshore power cable systems including the planning and execution of onshore cable operations.
- In depth knowledge/understanding of current standards and guidelines for the design, manufacture, installation and testing of onshore power cables.
- In depth knowledge/understanding of cable burial techniques and operations.
- In depth knowledge/understanding of electrical safety for cable jointing and termination works.
- Knowledge of quality management systems required for cable installation projects.
- Understanding of geotechnical and geophysical survey techniques and reports.
- Flexibility to travel between Iberdrola offices and contractor facilities in UK/Europe.
