The predicted salary is between 40000 - 50000 Β£ per year.
The Senior Stress Engineer will work within a multi-discipline design team. You will be responsible for the production of calculation and analysis reports for mechanical designs and checking of calculation reports completed by others. In addition, you will work with the Principal Stress Engineer and Engineering Managers to ensure that engineering projects meet legislative, quality and Company requirements and that risks to safety and delivery have been appropriately considered and addressed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake and supervise the production of calculation reports to substantiate the designs of mechanical handling equipment, lifting equipment and gloveboxes supplied by the client.
- Identify calculation requirements (including but not limited to code compliance, operational function requirement and failure modes).
- Check calculations and analysis undertaken by others.
- Assist with other analytical activities such as ARM, throughput, thermal and fluids calculations.
- Provide advice and guidance to designers to assist with developing designs, reporting and discussing any design concerns or failures at the earliest opportunity.
- Liaise with and review work being undertaken by sub-contractors on behalf of the client.
- Liaise with clients to establish calculation and substantiation requirements.
- Develop new calculation methodologies and techniques to improve efficiency and standards and to meet project requirements.
- Supervise stress analysis work by other engineers.
- Assist with design calculation estimates.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Experienced with both classical hand calculations and finite element stress analytical techniques.
- Detailed knowledge of primary design codes, including BS 2573, BS EN 13001 and BS EN 1993 or their equivalents.
- Understanding of the principles of BS EN 1090.
- Understanding of seismic analysis and assessment.
- Experienced in writing technical reports and presenting clear communication of calculation requirements, methodology and substantiation.
