We're seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to work on the development of mechanical systems for our advanced maritime platforms.

You'll play a key role in shaping mechanical architectures, guiding junior engineers, and delivering robust, innovative solutions across sonar, autonomous systems, and underwater technologies.

You'll collaborate with electrical, software, and systems engineers to develop complex systems from concept through to customer acceptance—ensuring performance, safety, and compliance at every stage.

Key responsibilities may include

  • Contribute to and lead the design and development of mechanical systems for complex maritime applications
  • Define system architectures, select materials and components, and ensure compliance with relevant standards
  • Produce and review CAD models, technical drawings, and design documentation
  • Guide integration, testing, and commissioning activities
  • Conduct design reviews and ensure technical accuracy across specifications and documentation
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to capability development
  • Collaborate with suppliers and customers to resolve technical challenges
  • Support bidding activities and contribute to future technical strategy

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ideally degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent. (A degree is not essential)
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering and design, including stress, materials and manufacturability.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (Solid Edge preferred) and familiarity with relevant drawing standards
  • Experience in design for cost, reliability, and testability
  • Knowledge of system engineering principles and multidisciplinary design environments
  • Ability to interpret user and system requirements and translate them into robust mechanical solutions
  • Experience of designing for an underwater environment would be a benefit but not essential.
