An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Environmental Manager to join a major infrastructure project based in Saxmundham, Suffolk. This is a temporary-to-permanent opportunity offering long-term career prospects for the right candidate.
We are looking for a proactive Environmental Manager with a strong background in construction and sustainability to lead environmental compliance across a complex infrastructure project. You will provide expert environmental guidance to project teams, ensure compliance with legislation and client requirements, and drive sustainability initiatives throughout the project lifecycle. Key Responsibilities- Act as the environmental subject matter expert for the project team.
- Develop, implement and maintain the project's Environmental Management System (EMS).
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permits and client requirements.
- Identify environmental risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Deliver environmental training and awareness across site teams.
- Carry out environmental audits, inspections and support external audits.
- Investigate environmental incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Produce environmental reports, KPI data and sustainability performance updates.
- Support carbon reduction, biodiversity, waste reduction and wider sustainability initiatives.
- Promote environmental best practice and continuous improvement across the project.
- Attend client meetings and liaise with regulators and key stakeholders where required.
- Minimum 5 years experience in environmental management within construction, civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
- Professional membership with a recognised environmental body such as IEMA, CIWEM or CIWM.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
- Experience assessing environmental aspects and impacts and implementing effective control measures.
- Good understanding of UK environmental legislation and regulatory compliance.
- Knowledge of sustainability principles including carbon reduction, circular economy, biodiversity, waste management and social sustainability.
- Experience conducting environmental audits and inspections.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced project environment.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:
