We are recruiting a Mechanical Building Services Engineer for a leading UK infrastructure consultancy. You will support the design and delivery of mechanical building-services solutions across infrastructure and Ministry of Justice projects, including prisons and other secure operational facilities. Applications are welcomed from developing engineers at Assistant level as well as established Building Services Engineers. The successful candidate will be appointed at the appropriate grade based on their experience.
Key responsibilities
- Design heating, ventilation, cooling, domestic water, drainage and associated mechanical building-services systems.
- Prepare calculations, drawings, specifications, reports and equipment schedules.
- Support projects from initial survey and concept design through detailed design, construction and handover.
- Undertake surveys and assessments of existing mechanical systems.
- Develop practical and energy-efficient solutions for refurbishment, upgrade and new-build projects.
- Coordinate mechanical designs with electrical, architectural and structural disciplines.
- Use mechanical design, calculation and modelling software.
- Assist with plant selection, system sizing and technical specifications.
- Support design reviews and respond to construction-stage queries.
- Identify design hazards and contribute to CDM risk-management processes.
- Ensure designs comply with Building Regulations, British Standards and relevant industry guidance.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers and operational stakeholders.
- Manage assigned work against quality, cost and programme objectives.
About you
- A degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience designing mechanical building-services systems.
- Knowledge of HVAC, mechanical plant, water services and associated controls.
- Experience producing calculations, drawings and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit and BIM methodologies.
- An understanding of Building Regulations, relevant standards and CDM responsibilities.
- Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Membership of, or progress toward membership of, CIBSE or another appropriate professional institution.
Previous consultancy experience would be advantageous, together with experience involving prisons, courts, government buildings, defence, healthcare or other live operational estates. Candidates must be able to obtain the necessary Ministry of Justice security clearance.
