Permanent position based in Chorley.

Job Description:

  • Assist portfolio Project Managers in delivering delegated contracts in compliance with the Quality Management System, as well as the 'as-sold' Tender and Client Specifications.
  • Support the safe delivery of projects, products, or integrated services within agreed timelines, budgets, and quality standards, while identifying and escalating emerging risks and opportunities.
  • Facilitate effective communication within the project team, addressing interfaces between disciplines, managing resource constraints across parallel projects, and resolving client and stakeholder challenges.
  • Interpret, analyse, and process engineering drawings and specifications to enable manufacturing in alignment with procedures.
  • Provide support across design, commercial, project management, purchasing, manufacture, and quality assurance departments.

Specific Areas of Responsibility:

  • Deliver integrated project services, ensuring successful completion within agreed scope, budget, quality, and timescales.
  • Monitor and manage project quality performance, including Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), while promoting the dissemination of Lessons from Experience (LFE).
  • Manage project change control processes, addressing variances and ensuring risks and opportunities are identified and mitigated effectively.
  • Maintain professional and ethical communication with clients, upholding Company values, vision, and mission statements.
  • Collaborate with department leads to manage continuing professional development activities in alignment with the competency framework.
  • Liaise with Project Quantity Surveyors and Project Quality Engineers to ensure accurate costing, quality compliance and alignment of project goals.
  • Produce reports for inclusion in weekly SOFT reports, ensuring accurate and timely updates.
  • Attend site-specific meetings and provide accurate progress updates to clients and stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Expedite internal and subcontracted deliverables and organise site deliveries to support project timelines and quality standards.
  • Interpret and analyse engineering drawings to extract relevant information and enable manufacturing in compliance with NIS procedures.
  • Generate and configure Bills of Materials (BOMs) within the MES and/or MCS systems to support material procurement and manufacturing processes, ensuring alignment with engineering drawings, client specifications, and production requirements.
  • Identify optimal manufacturing methodologies and produce detailed manufacturing routings/route cards.
  • Extract and process information from client documentation, including specifications, quality plans, and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Oversee production and manufacturing activities, providing technical support to internal teams and subcontractors.
  • Resolve technical issues and ensure effective liaison with subcontractors to maintain project alignment.
  • Leverage NIS corporate memberships with professional organisations to support effective and efficient project execution.

Qualifications:

  • City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering or Fabrication and Welding
  • HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or Fabrication and Welding
  • Member of an applicable professional institute
  • IOSH H&S Certificate

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Substantial level of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Varied background of engineering, disciplines, fabrication and welding (MMA, TIG, MIG/MAG), materials (stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminium), material processing techniques, machining techniques, surface treatment, straightening & manipulation.
  • Varied background of engineering disciplines in light, medium or heavy machining and machining/set up of mechanical fabrications.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Interpretation of varied types of drawings & specs
  • Able to work independently & as part of a team
  • Use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
  • Able to use AutoCAD & other drawing packages
