Role Overview

We are seeking experienced Electrical Fitters to support ship repair and maintenance activities at HM Naval Base Portsmouth. Candidates must have strong electrical fitting experience and a good understanding of working safely within a marine, rail or heavy industrial environment.

Key Duties

  • Install, maintain and modify electrical systems and equipment on naval vessels.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings and technical documentation.
  • Carry out fault finding, defect rectification and electrical testing.
  • Install and terminate cables, cable trays, basket, conduit and hangers.
  • Undertake crimping, soldering and multi-pin connector termination.
  • Install and pack cable glands/transits, including Roxtec, RISE and Brattberg.
  • Install equipment including motors, starters, control panels, communications and associated systems.
  • Carry out basic mechanical fitting as required.
  • Work flexibly across trade disciplines and as part of a team.

Essential Requirements

  • Strong industrial electrical fitting experience.
  • Ship repair, marine, offshore or similar industrial experience.
  • Good understanding of safe systems of work.
  • Awareness of electrical safety, confined spaces and working at height.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge.
  • Ability to work from electrical drawings and technical information.
  • Flexible, reliable and safety-focused team player.
