CNC MACHINE OPERATOR

Location – Larne (Northern Ireland)

Type of role – Full time ongoing

Salary - £14.27-£28.54/hr

Hours – Monday to Thursday (37.5hrs/week) – days and nights

About the Role

Caterpillar is looking for skilled and motivated CNC Machine Operators to join its manufacturing team in Larne. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a world-class manufacturing environment, operating advanced CNC machinery to produce high-quality components for Caterpillar products. Successful candidates will play a key role in ensuring products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards while supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Setting up and operating Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) metalworking machinery.
  • Operating laser cutting machines, punch presses and press brakes to cut, form and bend steel plate to specification.
  • Adjusting machine offsets and overriding machine functions where required to maintain product quality.
  • Performing a range of sheet metal operations including:
    • Laser cutting
    • Forming
    • Punching
    • Counter-boring
    • Reaming
    • Tapping
  • Interpreting machining programmes, encoded instructions, tooling layouts and engineering drawings.
  • Operating machinery manually when required to complete rework, missed operations or final machining processes.
  • Carrying out self-inspection of completed work against engineering drawings and quality standards.
  • Maintaining compliance with all health & safety procedures and quality requirements.
  • Supporting 5S and continuous improvement initiatives across the manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrating Caterpillar's Values in Action through professional behaviour and teamwork.
  • Assisting with the training of colleagues when required.
  • Undertaking any other duties appropriate to the role.

Essential Requirements

  • The ability to interpret machining programmes, encoded instructions, tooling layouts and engineering drawings.
  • The ability to follow detailed verbal and written work instructions.
  • Basic numeracy skills to carry out routine calculations.
  • The ability to work safely at height and in confined spaces.
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shift patterns and reasonable overtime when required.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in a lean manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively.
  • Basic computer literacy.

Pay & Benefits

Caterpillar offers a competitive salary and excellent employee benefits, including:

  • Day Shift: £16.75 per hour
  • Night Shift: £22.33 per hour
  • Overtime (first 10 hours): £25.13 per hour
  • Overtime (after 10 hours): £33.50 per hour
