The 33KV Senior Authorised Person (SAP) is responsible for the safe control, supervision, and authorisation of all high voltage (HV) electrical systems up to 33kV. This role involves overseeing installation, testing, commissioning, switching, and energisation activities in compliance with relevant safety rules and standards. The SAP acts as the duty holder for HV permits, isolations, and switching schedules, ensuring all works are conducted safely and in accordance with CDM regulations, client safety requirements, and industry best practices.
The role requires strong technical competence in HV protection systems, including relay configuration, setting changes, and interpretation of protection coordination studies. The SAP will manage HV equipment such as 33kV switchgear (including Schneider), transformers, HV cables, and interfaces with substations and protection systems. Integration and validation of control room interfaces and mimic panels are also key responsibilities.
The successful candidate will liaise with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) and clients during outages and connections, ensuring compliance with UKPN, TWUL, and other client-specific safety rules. Confined space awareness and construction project safety knowledge are essential, as is the ability to lead and authorise HV switching and energisation activities.
Skills:
- Recognised Electrical Apprenticeship or equivalent NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Power/Engineering/Installation
- Senior Authorised Person (SAP) Authorisation for HV systems up to 33kV (UKPN, DNO, or client-approved)
- Current HV Safety Rules Training and Assessment
- Knowledge of 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
- HSG/CDM Awareness for construction projects
- Confined Space Training (medium/high risk)
- Competence in HV protection relay configuration and setting changes
- Experience interpreting and implementing protection coordination studies (e.g., RINA)
- Proven involvement in HV testing, switching, and energisation activities
- Familiarity with Schneider 33kV switchgear and AGMS/SAP mimic systems
- Ability to authorise and manage HV permits, isolations, and switching instructions
