Quantity Surveyor (QS) Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time Summary: The Quantity Surveyor plays a vital role in providing commercial support to project teams, ensuring accurate cost control, forecasting, and contractual compliance throughout the project lifecycle. This role involves managing subcontract procurement, negotiating contracts, preparing applications for payment, and maintaining strong client and supply chain relationships. The Quantity Surveyor actively identifies commercial opportunities and mitigates risks to protect the business, while supporting continuous improvement in commercial processes. Working closely with senior commercial and project management teams, the role demands effective communication, organisation, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to deliver projects efficiently and profitably. Key Responsibilities: Maintain accurate and timely cost, value, and cash flow reporting at project and business unit levels. Manage subcontract procurement, negotiation, and financial accounting. Ensure compliance with contractual terms, commercial governance, and company procedures. Prepare and submit applications for payment, variations, claims, and additional payments. Collaborate with site teams to forecast expenditure and cash recovery. Support continuous improvement of commercial processes and share best practices. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams. Identify and realise commercial opportunities while mitigating risks. Skills: Previous experience in construction, preferably civil engineering or water sector. Strong knowledge of ICE/NEC forms of contract and Construction Law. Commercial management and subcontract procurement experience. Proficient in cost management, forecasting, and earned value analysis. Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Strong numeric and computer literacy, proficient in Microsoft Office. Organisational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
