We're partnering with a leading global digital organisation as it continues to evolve its digital platforms and scale its technology capabilities to support growing customer and commercial demand. This is a high-impact contract opportunity for a hands-on engineer who combines deep technical capability with the ability to enable and coach multiple engineering teams. You'll own performance strategy, enhance internal performance tooling, improve observability, and help shape the next generation of AI-assisted performance analysis.
The Opportunity
You'll act as the central performance engineering specialist across multiple product teams, helping to embed performance best practices into the engineering lifecycle while owning and evolving an internal performance platform. The environment is mature in performance testing, so the focus is on taking things to the next level through automation, innovation, observability improvements, and AI-driven tooling. You'll work closely with engineering teams, tech leads, and platform teams to improve system performance, reduce manual effort, and support scalable growth.
What You'll Be Doing
- Own and drive the end-to-end performance engineering strategy across multiple product teams
- Build, maintain, and enhance internal performance testing frameworks and tooling
- Design and implement load, stress, soak, and browser/API performance testing strategies
- Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks using logs, metrics, and distributed tracing
- Support production incident analysis and root cause investigations
- Coach and mentor engineering teams on performance engineering best practices
- Improve observability capabilities across distributed systems
- Integrate performance testing into CI/CD pipelines and shift-left engineering practices
What We're Looking For
- Strong hands-on experience in performance engineering within cloud-native environments
- Experience building and maintaining performance frameworks, not just executing tests
- Strong coding capability in C# / .NET
- Experience with performance testing tools such as Gatling, k6, JMeter, or similar
- Strong understanding of observability and telemetry
- Experience with tools such as OpenTelemetry, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, Kibana, or similar
Nice to Have
- Experience with AI-assisted engineering workflows
- Exposure to agentic AI or automation tooling
- Experience building telemetry analysis workflows
- Experience improving automated reporting and anomaly detection
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases
This is an exciting opportunity to shape and drive performance engineering strategy within a well-established organisation as it accelerates its digital transformation and platform innovation.
