Manufacturing Engineer – Metrology
Location: Huddersfield Salary: Up to £50,000 depending on experience Contract: Permanent Hours: 37 hours per week Shift Pattern: Days, afternoons and nights depending on business requirements Travel: Up to 15% UK / 5% international
The Role
David Brown Defence is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer with strong experience across precision manufacturing and metrology to support its production and assembly operations.
Working closely with Manufacturing, Design and Quality, you'll provide technical support on complex manufacturing challenges, improve processes and use metrology techniques to ensure components and assemblies meet demanding dimensional and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities Provide technical support and problem solving to manufacturing and assembly teams Support precision machining processes, including turning, boring and milling Interpret engineering drawings and advise on tolerances, GD&T and machine capability Plan and support metrology activities using laser trackers, measuring arms and other measurement equipment Analyse measurement data and support stacked tolerance manufacture Participate in PFMEAs, process mapping and risk mitigation Support continuous improvement across quality, cycle time and manufacturing capability Provide input into manufacturing methods, processes and tooling Work closely with Manufacturing, Design Engineering, Quality and Supply Chain Support FAT activities and occasional customer-site installations What We're Looking For Manufacturing Engineering experience within a precision engineering environment Strong understanding of GD&T and engineering drawings Knowledge of turning, boring, milling and CNC machining Experience of CNC programming Practical experience with metrology equipment, ideally laser trackers and/or measuring arms Understanding of component and assembly inspection and dimensional accuracy Ability to troubleshoot manufacturing issues and support production teams Experience of mentoring or providing technical guidance SAP knowledge would be beneficial Minimum NVQ Level 3 Mechanical Engineering or similar HNC/HND Mechanical Engineering or similar preferred About David Brown Defence
