Product Safety Digital Solution Expert Digital Engineering | Systems Engineering | Product Safety Duration: 6 month contract Location: Reading At least 2-3 days per week on-site Rate: Β£101.85 p/h Umbrella Overview An opportunity for an experienced Product Safety or System Safety Engineer with a strong interest in digital engineering to support the development of digital solutions for complex aerospace and defence programmes. The role combines established safety engineering principles with digital engineering tools, processes and workflows. You will help translate product safety requirements and engineering needs into practical digital solutions, supporting the integration of safety analysis, safety requirements, system models and verification evidence across the engineering lifecycle. Working closely with safety engineers and wider engineering stakeholders, you will contribute to the development and implementation of digital safety engineering capabilities, including tool integration, data traceability, proof-of-concept activities and the development of consistent engineering standards and processes. The ideal candidate will understand both the technical requirements of Product/System Safety Engineering and how digital engineering environments can improve the way safety information is created, managed, integrated and maintained. Key Responsibilities Capture, analyse and document Product Safety and System Safety engineering needs, translating them into digital engineering requirements and solutions. Define and develop digital workflows to support safety analysis, safety requirements management and the production and management of safety evidence. Support the design, development and implementation of digital safety engineering tool solutions, including Ansys medini analyze or equivalent safety analysis tools. Define and support the integration and traceability of safety analyses, safety requirements, system models and verification information. Support the integration of Product Safety Engineering with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), requirements management and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) environments. Develop and support proof-of-concept activities and pilot implementations to evaluate and demonstrate digital safety engineering solutions. Work collaboratively with Product Safety, Systems Engineering and other technical stakeholders to validate, refine and deploy digital solutions. Help ensure that digital engineering solutions align with established safety engineering practices, programme requirements and wider engineering processes. Contribute to the development and maintenance of digital engineering standards, processes and governance arrangements for Product Safety. Support the effective management, accessibility, consistency and traceability of safety-related engineering data across complex engineering programmes. Essential Skills and Experience A minimum of eight years' experience in Product Safety, System Safety or Safety Engineering. Strong understanding of Product Safety and System Safety engineering principles, processes and practices. Practical experience using Ansys medini analyze or equivalent safety analysis tools. Knowledge of safety analysis techniques and safety requirements, including how safety information is developed and managed. Understanding of Systems Engineering principles and engineering lifecycle processes. Ability to translate engineering requirements and stakeholder needs into digital engineering solutions, workflows and processes. Experience working within complex engineering programmes, particularly where safety and engineering assurance are important. Ability to engage with technical stakeholders, understand their engineering needs and support the validation and implementation of suitable digital solutions. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related discipline. Desirable Skills and Experience Experience working within the aerospace and defence sector, particularly on UK MOD, Defence Digital or UK aerospace programmes. Knowledge of relevant aerospace safety standards and practices, including ARP4754, ARP4761 and DO-178C. Experience with IBM DOORS Next for requirements management. Experience with MBSE environments and tools such as Cameo or Rhapsody. Experience integrating safety analysis tools with requirements management systems and wider engineering toolchains. Experience supporting digital engineering transformation, developing digital workflows or implementing new engineering tools and processes. Experience contributing to digital engineering standards, governance and consistent ways of working across engineering teams. Candidate Profile We are looking for an established safety engineering professional who can bridge the gap between traditional Product/System Safety Engineering and digital engineering implementation. This is not simply a conventional Product Safety Engineer position, nor is it solely a digital engineering or systems modelling role. The key requirement is a combination of safety engineering knowledge, familiarity with digital safety tools and the ability to translate engineering needs into effective digital workflows and integrated solutions. Candidates with experience across safety analysis, requirements traceability, MBSE and engineering tool integration are particularly relevant, provided they can demonstrate a sound foundation in Product or System Safety Engineering.
