At Electricity North West Ltd we power the lives of 5 million people in the North West of England. We are looking for a Lead Electrical Design Engineer to join our Grid and Primary Design team, playing a key role in delivering capital projects up to 132kV across the region.
You will lead on all aspects of substation and network design from concept through to commissioning while supporting a variety of infrastructure upgrades to meet the evolving needs of our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of electrical design strategies and solutions for capital projects.
- Carry out and approve detailed design work for substations and associated infrastructure (up to 132kV).
- Oversee and manage contractors and consultants throughout project lifecycles.
- Prepare and approve technical specifications for all plant and equipment.
- Witness and accept equipment during Factory Acceptance Testing.
- Carry out protection setting calculations.
- Supervise and mentor junior and graduate engineers.
- Approve the work of other engineers at Lead Engineer level.
Requirements
- Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering (degree preferred).
- Strong experience in substation design (132kV/33kV/11kV).
- In-depth understanding of protection schemes, switchgear, overhead lines and underground cable design.
- Knowledge of CDM regulations in a utility or DNO setting.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Familiar with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (especially Excel); experience with power system analysis tools desirable.
