The predicted salary is between 55000 - 65000 £ per year.

Due to continued growth, we are currently seeking CS&A Engineers at all Levels to support hybrid working and can be based across our office network within the UK - Stockton, Newcastle, Bristol, Gloucester, Glasgow, Westlakes and Warrington.

These are contract positions inside IR35:

  • CS&A Engineer - £45-£55ph
  • Senior CS&A Engineer - £55-£65ph
  • Principal CS&A Engineer - £65-£75ph

BPSS clearance is required for these roles.

CS&A Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Technical quality and excellence of your work and the work of those working under you to ensure engineering delivery meets scope, time, cost and quality.
  • Project planning, delivery and financial performance of your work and that of junior staff.
  • Communication with clients and other design team members to provide technical input and justification.
  • Technical and professional guidance, support and development of more junior designers.
  • Responsible for the development and delivery of design documents and solutions.
  • Chair and facilitate technical and non-technical meetings including progress meetings and design reviews.
  • Independent and autonomous work during the delivery of complex engineering activities.
  • Be fully conversant with business and quality management systems and actively encourage compliance within team.
  • Co-ordinate & supervise surveys (condition, measurement etc) & assessments.

Criteria:

  • Degree qualified in Civil/Structural engineering or demonstrable equivalent underpinning knowledge and understanding.
  • Experience in a civil and structural design role having direct influence over design practices and outcomes.
  • Proven ability to lead projects of varying size and complexity, managing technical aspects as well as quality, budget, programme and resources.
  • Expert in the use of the latest version of AutoCAD, Revit and associated software, with the ability to work unsupervised.
  • Knowledge and understanding of British Standards and CDM regulations.
  • Experience in detailing of reinforced concrete and structural steelwork.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member liaising directly with clients and other cross-discipline design team members.
  • Awareness of applicable codes and safety legislation and how they should be applied.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, and report writing skills.

Senior CS&A Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of civil and structural engineering designs and solutions across the full project lifecycle.
  • Prepare technical documentation, specifications, and design justifications for safety-critical systems.
  • Oversight, verification and preparation of safety case inputs, such as Safety Functional Requirements (SFRs), Structural Design Method Statements (SDMSs) and Design Substantiation Reports (DSR).
  • Oversight, verification and preparation of Interpretive Reports, Basis of Design, Analysis Reports, Calculations, CDM documentation, Material Specifications, Scopes of Work, and Technical Reports.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the practical aspects of implementing engineering designs and understand the use of standards and compliance with regulatory requirements in an engineering environment.
  • Manage and check deliverables from junior engineers to ensure compliance and quality.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers.
  • Interface with clients, regulators, and project stakeholders on technical matters.
  • Ensure designs meet nuclear safety, cybersecurity, and quality standards.
  • Support project planning, cost estimating, and risk management activities.
  • Produce high-quality technical reports.
  • Build and maintain valuable relationships with clients, partners and peers.

Criteria:

  • Chartered or near Chartered Engineer status with a relevant professional body (we will support you).
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles, design tools and relevant guidelines, standards and practices.
  • Ability to simplify complex problems.
  • Experience using finite element modelling software and associated post-processing software, with experience in validation and verification of modelling tools and their outputs.
  • Good knowledge of health and safety legislation and good practice.
  • Understanding of the use of design tools within a BIM environment.
  • Experience in producing and checking high-quality technical deliverables.
  • Motivated team member with the ability to work to deadlines and communicate project progress.
  • Good communication skills and ability to articulate information to a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Committed to Continuous Professional Development.

Principal CS&A Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Leading a team of CS&A engineers and architects in the definition, implementation and delivery of specified functional works that achieves safety, functional and business requirements.
  • Key role holder within the Engineering team on the project.
  • Delivery of the civil, structural, and architectural design.
  • Manage the interface to and between key Delivery Partners and the design team.
  • Understanding of the commercial implications of products, scope and packages.
  • Delivery of substantiation and other approvals.
  • Risk identification with proposed resolution / mitigation.
  • Production of Schedule and identification of key milestones.
  • Develop deliverables list and format (drawings, specifications, reports, BIM etc.).

Criteria:

  • Higher Education Qualification in Engineering (or equivalent) subject - MEng (preferred).
  • Appropriate (Engineering or Scientific) Institution Membership - Chartered Engineer.
  • Background engineering experience demonstrating a record of successful delivery including recent positions influencing professional engineers and guiding technical personnel.
  • Experience of working within a regulated and quality assured system (preferably nuclear) in roles where professional judgement is the key attribute.
