Contract Tech Lead | Java | i Gaming | Up to £600/day | Outside IR35 | 6 Months | Fully Remote
We're looking for an experienced Tech Lead to join a product-focused engineering team, working on scalable, cloud-based applications within the i Gaming industry.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role, combining strong Java engineering expertise with technical ownership, stakeholder management and team leadership.
You'll act as a key link between engineering, product and wider business stakeholders, helping to shape technical direction and ensure teams deliver high-quality solutions.
- What you'll be doing
- Providing technical leadership and direction across engineering teams.
- Designing, developing and maintaining Java applications, microservices and REST APIs.
- Working closely with Product, Engineering and business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.
- Acting as a key point of contact between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
- Communicating complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Leading technical discussions, design sessions and architectural decision-making.
- Supporting engineers through mentoring, technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
- Identifying technical risks, dependencies and opportunities for improvement and communicating these effectively.
- Helping teams deliver scalable, maintainable and well-tested software within an agile environment.
- Contributing to engineering standards, best practices and continuous improvement.
What we're looking for
- Strong commercial experience with Java and Spring Boot.
- Previous experience as a Tech Lead, Technical Lead, Senior Engineer or similar.
- Strong understanding of REST APIs, microservices and distributed systems.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, development practices and testing.
- Proven experience leading technical discussions and influencing technical decisions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Comfortable working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring and supporting other engineers.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to balance technical requirements with wider business needs.
