Principal Process Engineer

Duration: Initial 6-12 Month Contract with strong potential for extension

The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Process Engineer to lead the process engineering discipline on major engineering design projects within the onshore gas processing sector.
This role is suited to a senior engineer with extensive experience in gas processing facilities, FEED and EPC project delivery, and multidisciplinary engineering environments. You will act as the discipline lead, providing technical leadership, managing project deliverables, and ensuring successful delivery of process engineering scopes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of process engineers across projects, studies and proposals.
  • Take responsibility for discipline quality, schedule and cost performance.
  • Deliver and review process engineering designs in accordance with project, client and company standards.
  • Act as the lead process engineer on allocated projects, representing the discipline in client, vendor and third-party meetings.
  • Approve engineering deliverables where authorised.
  • Develop project execution plans, discipline deliverables and resource requirements.
  • Monitor engineering progress and report performance against programme and budget targets.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration of process engineering requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineering teams.
  • Ensure compliance with all Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.
  • Support occasional travel to client, supplier and project locations as required.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Degree qualified in Chemical Engineering.
  • Significant experience in a Lead or Principal Process Engineering position.
  • Minimum 15 years experience within engineering consultancy, EPC or contracting environments.
  • Extensive experience in the design of onshore gas processing facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of: o Gas reception systems o Gas treatment facilities o Gas compression systems o Underground gas storage facilities
  • Proven FEED and EPC project experience across the full project lifecycle.
  • Strong process simulation capability.
  • Experience developing: o Process Design Basis documents o Scopes of Work o Heat & Material Balances o Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) o Process Design Philosophies o Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Experience with equipment sizing and specification for: o Unit Operations o Major Process Equipment o Utility Systems o Equipment Packages o Piping and Instrumentation requirements
  • Strong knowledge of process safety including: o HAZID o HAZOP o SIL Classification o LOPA o Relief and Blowdown calculations
  • Strong technical writing and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Commercial awareness coupled with a proactive, solutions-focused approach.

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer status (MIChemE/FIChemE).
  • Previous experience delivering major projects as a Lead Process Engineer.
  • Experience across related energy or industrial sectors.
