Job Role:
Working on the MIMESIS programme in the Simulation & Training function. Typical duties include (but are not limited to):
- Apply a breadth of knowledge, skills and knowledge of Systems Engineering and company approaches, techniques and governance to design and develop solutions and resolve engineering issues and problems for a range of products and engineering situations, compiling technical reports and accompanying presentations as required.
- Apply the Systems Engineering principles of ISO 15288 to the design and build of systems through the entire engineering lifecycle from requirement definition to system integration and customer acceptance into system support and disposal.
- Apply the Systems Engineering and Software Engineering principles of ISO 15288 and ISO 12207 to the design of software-based Simulation Systems through the entire engineering lifecycle from requirement definition to system integration and customer acceptance into system support and disposal.
- Undertake Simulation Systems equipment design, network design, and software design, including associated performance prediction and installation design.
- Work independently under limited technical direction across a range of products and services, resolving common engineering problems.
- Discern and decompose requirements to system and sub-system level and manage these in an approved toolset such as IBM DOORS Next.
- Undertake system design decomposition and architectural modelling to subsystem level, including associated external and internal interface definition, and manage architectural models in an approved toolset such as CATIA Magic (Cameo).
- Undertake system integration, test planning and execution.
- Contribute to definition of acceptance strategies in order to verify requirement compliance at specific levels of system design, supporting production of customer acceptance evidence.
- Undertake technical reviews, verification and approval of engineering technical design and documentation in accordance with business, legislative and customer requirements.
- Maintain a good working knowledge of contemporary Systems Engineering practices including Model Based Engineering, cyber security, safety procedures, and technologies used to realise simulated environments.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of requirements management (e.g. IBM DOORS Next) and configuration management.
- Knowledge of working with large scale complex system designs.
- Knowledge of integration of predominantly software-based systems, particularly with Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) platforms, technology and network functionality.
- Knowledge of multiple phases of an engineering lifecycle and good knowledge of lifecycle models (e.g. Waterfall, Agile) and associated tools (e.g. JIRA).
- Knowledge of mathematical simulation tools/languages (e.g. Mathworks MATLAB, Simulink, Pearl, Python, MathCAD).
- Proven ability of using a high level design methodology (e.g. UAF, NAF, TOGAF, SysML, UML) and the production of associated design artefacts, including documentation.
- Knowledge of working with contemporary technologies and concepts e.g. MBE, MBSE, digital twins, simulated environments, AR/VR, AI/ML, IoT, etc.
- Demonstrates understanding, knowledge and knowledge of Systems Engineering with a focus on software-based product development including knowledge of appropriate Systems Engineering and Software Engineering standards (e.g. ISO 15288 and ISO 12207 respectively).
- Prior knowledge of simulation system or system modelling development.
