We are recruiting a Senior or Principal Electrical Building Services Engineer for a leading UK infrastructure consultancy.

You will lead the design and delivery of electrical building-services solutions across infrastructure and Ministry of Justice projects, including prisons and other secure operational facilities.

Depending on your experience, you will either lead electrical delivery on individual projects or provide technical and team leadership across a wider multidisciplinary portfolio.

  • ## Key responsibilities
  • Lead the design of power distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarms, security systems, standby power and associated infrastructure.
  • Manage and check calculations, specifications, drawings, reports and technical documentation.
  • Lead projects from initial survey and concept design through detailed design, construction support, commissioning and handover.
  • Act as electrical technical lead or multidisciplinary Design Team Lead where required.
  • Manage interfaces between electrical, mechanical, structural and architectural disciplines.
  • Undertake design reviews and provide technical assurance.
  • Develop practical solutions for new-build, refurbishment and upgrade projects.
  • Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, British Standards, CDM requirements and relevant technical guidance.
  • Manage project risks, quality, programmes and budgets.
  • Develop relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers and operational stakeholders.
  • Present engineering proposals and recommendations to clients.
  • Mentor and professionally develop engineers and technicians.
  • Contribute to bids, framework opportunities and work-winning activities.
  • At Principal level, support resource planning, workload allocation and people management.
  • ## About you

You will have

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Extensive electrical building-services design experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, security systems and resilient electrical infrastructure.
  • Experience leading technical delivery within multidisciplinary environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Building Regulations, British Standards and CDM requirements.
  • Experience undertaking design reviews, technical assurance and quality-management activities.
  • Strong commercial, client and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Working knowledge of Auto CAD, Revit, BIM platforms and electrical calculation software.
  • Incorporated or Chartered status with CIBSE, the IET or another relevant institution.

Principal candidates should normally possess Chartered Engineer status or equivalent experience and demonstrate team leadership, commercial responsibility and work-winning capability.

Justice, prison, government-estate or other secure-sector experience would be advantageous. Candidates must be able to obtain the necessary Ministry of Justice security clearance.
