The Places Design Practice is seeking a career-minded Senior Engineer with proven experience in the design and delivery of civil engineering and urban development activities within building projects. This includes, but is not limited to, surface and foul drainage, utilities, earthworks/groundworks, and highways interfaces.
You will support Urban Development service delivery through the Places Design Practice, collaborating with cross-GBA teams, GEC, and global Places expertise. Experience in Industrial Manufacturing, Technology, or Defence projects is welcomed.
Role accountabilities:- Lead civil engineering design activities contributing to sustainable development while applying Health and Safety principles during project planning and delivery.
- Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary design teams to ensure integrity and cohesion of overall engineering solutions.
- Define and implement project approaches for collaboration with global design colleagues.
- Prepare and manage design solutions at various project stages, including production of drawings, BIM models, reports, and specifications.
- Attend project meetings and review the work of other team members to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Work alongside multidisciplinary teams including design, environmental, and construction disciplines to achieve project objectives.
- Identify and implement engineering management arrangements to align with Integrated Management System requirements.
- Prepare and maintain Designer Hazard Logs and communicate residual risks to the Principal Designer.
- Provide technical input to project Design Decision Logs and Project Assumptions registers.
- Act as a technical design lead by contributing to the resolution of technical issues and providing guidance to junior engineers, technicians, and apprentices.
- Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline. Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status is preferred; candidates nearing chartered status will also be considered.
- Proven experience in the design and delivery of civil engineering and urban development activities within building projects, including surface water and foul water drainage, highways, and utility design.
- Proficiency with design software such as MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and BIM integration.
- Strong understanding of relevant design codes, standards, and construction principles, including SuDS, Sewers for Adoption, DMRB, and Building Regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, provide technical direction, and mentor team members to support their professional development and project delivery.
- Commitment to maintaining and extending theoretical knowledge and applying evidence-based approaches to problem-solving.
- Solid technical competence in fundamental design principles, including the ability to perform manual calculations where software solutions are not applicable.
