Morson Edge are recruiting an experienced Lead Contractor Design Approval Engineer (LCDAE) to support a major UK electricity transmission infrastructure project in London.
A high number of candidates may make applications for this position, so make sure to send your CV and application through as soon as possible.
This is a specialist contract opportunity for an engineer with current LCDAE authorisation and a strong background in high-voltage cabling. You'll provide technical leadership and design assurance across a major cable tunnel upgrade, supporting detailed design and potentially construction-stage activities.
The Opportunity
The project involves a significant electricity transmission upgrade, including the installation of an additional high-voltage cable circuit and associated substation modifications to increase network capacity and support future electricity demand.
As Lead Contractor Design Approval Engineer, you'll be responsible for ensuring design submissions comply with the relevant client technical standards, procedures and approval requirements. You'll provide assurance throughout the detailed design phase, with potential involvement during construction.
You'll also provide technical oversight to a team of three Contractor Design Approval Engineers (CDAEs), helping ensure design submissions meet the required standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake the Lead Contractor Design Approval Engineer role in accordance with the applicable technical standards and approval procedures.
- Ensure designs comply with the relevant electricity transmission standards and project requirements.
- Review, assess and approve design submissions throughout the detailed design phase.
- Provide technical assurance across the high-voltage cabling scope.
- Oversee and support three Contractor Design Approval Engineers.
- Identify design non-compliances, technical risks and issues, ensuring these are appropriately addressed.
- Liaise with design teams, contractors and project stakeholders to support compliant design delivery.
- Maintain oversight of design approvals and associated technical documentation.
- Provide construction-stage design support if the project progresses to that stage.
- Attend occasional office or site meetings as required.
What You'll Need
- Current, valid LCDAE authorisation for the relevant electricity transmission network operator - essential.
- Demonstrable experience undertaking the LCDAE role on relevant transmission infrastructure projects.
- A strong technical background in high-voltage (HV) cabling.
- Thorough understanding of the applicable technical standards, design assurance requirements and approval procedures.
- Experience reviewing, assuring and approving complex engineering design submissions.
- Experience working on high-voltage electricity transmission infrastructure.
- Ability to provide technical leadership and oversight to CDAEs and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently in a specialist technical assurance role.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate current authorisation and relevant project experience. General civil, structural or substation experience without the required LCDAE authorisation and HV cabling background will not meet the core requirements.
Working Pattern
- Contract: Initial 12-month contract, with potential for extension.
- IR35: Inside IR35.
- Rate: £80-£100 per hour, depending on experience.
- Hours: Approximately 8 hours per week initially, on an ad hoc basis, with potential for additional hours depending on workload.
- Location: Predominantly remote, with occasional travel to office or site meetings in North West London.
- Location preference: Candidates within reasonable travelling distance of London are preferred.
- Start date: Immediate start preferred.
What's on Offer
- A specialist technical leadership role on a major electricity transmission infrastructure project.
- A competitive contract rate of £80-£100 per hour.
- A predominantly remote working arrangement with a relatively low initial weekly time commitment.
- The opportunity to provide technical oversight across a team of three CDAEs.
- Potential for continued involvement as the project progresses. xgikmsk
