Contract Length: 18 Months
Security Clearance: BPSS Required
Rate: Up to Β£38/hour PAYE or Β£51.89/hour Umbrella
IR35 Status: Inside IR35

The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join a major engineering and infrastructure programme supporting critical industrial operations. This is an excellent opportunity to work on complex projects within a highly regulated environment, overseeing engineering solutions from concept through to commissioning and handover.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in delivering safe, effective, and compliant engineering projects while ensuring stakeholder requirements are met throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify project functional requirements and stakeholder needs.
  • Support the development of Project Execution Plans, including design, safety, and commissioning strategies.
  • Contribute to project optioneering and engineering decision-making.
  • Develop concept designs and fit-for-purpose engineering solutions.
  • Produce and review technical specifications and engineering documentation.
  • Manage detailed design activities in line with engineering governance requirements.
  • Prepare engineering modifications and technical proposals.
  • Review and approve contractor documentation, including method statements and risk assessments.
  • Provide technical oversight of construction and installation activities.
  • Ensure works are delivered in accordance with design intent and quality requirements.
  • Approve as-built documentation and maintain configuration control.
  • Support commissioning, decommissioning, and operational handover activities.
  • Collaborate with engineers, operators, contractors, and key stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in event investigations and root cause analysis activities.

Essential Requirements

  • HNC, Degree, or equivalent qualification at NQF Level 5/6 in an Engineering discipline.
  • Experience in a practising engineering role within an industrial environment.
  • Mechanical or Electrical engineering background.
  • Proven project engineering experience within regulated or complex engineering environments.
  • Strong understanding of relevant engineering standards and best practices.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

Desirable Experience

  • Knowledge of safety rules and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Understanding of quality management systems and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience working under CDM regulations.
  • Contract management experience.
  • Previous project delivery experience from concept through to handover.
