Health & Safety Investigations Specialist role brief:

The HSW Investigation Specialist is primarily responsible for managing the process of the investigation of accidents and incidents and ensuring that learning opportunities from investigations are identified, communicated and embedded within the business. You will ensure that we meet and where possible exceed client requirements/expectations and look to embed continual improvement, lean and innovative processes throughout the lifecycle of the project. You will lead on the development of investigation skills in the HSW and operational teams through training, coaching and mentoring. You will work with the HSW teams across the project, including Project-Wide Services team, assurance team and delivery unit teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake investigations in accordance with company and client requirements.
  • Identify actions, recommendations and opportunities to learn from events.
  • Train, coach and mentor HSW and delivery teams on investigation and learning.
  • Be accountable for the ongoing management, execution and continuous improvement of the investigations process, including tailoring the investigation process to the level of risk and complexity of the incident.
  • Work with project HSW and Delivery teams to ensure that incidents and events are comprehensively investigated to identify learning opportunities which can be shared throughout the project.
  • Assist with the identification and appointment of investigation resources including Lead Investigators, Investigators and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
  • Collate and analyse investigation findings for trends, systemic and cultural causes and systems failures and facilitate appropriate corrective actions including strategic initiatives.

Required qualifications, skills, behaviours and attributes:

  • Extensive experience in relevant field of construction/infrastructure health and safety.
  • Extensive experience in health and safety incident investigations, learning and analysis.
  • Health and safety diploma, degree or equivalent NCRQ or NVQ.
  • Working towards chartered membership of IOSH - CMIOSH or other relevant professional membership.
  • Incident Investigation and Causal Analysis training.
  • Experience in developing programmes of work and directing investigations, delivering outcomes so that timelines are met across a range of concurrent investigations.
