About the Role

We are currently seeking a dedicated and customer-focused Grounds Maintenance Operative to join our client's Environmental Services team. This is a varied and rewarding role responsible for delivering high-quality grounds maintenance, environmental improvements, and estate services across their housing stock. You will play a key role in ensuring our communal areas are attractive, safe, and well-maintained, helping to create places where our customers are proud to live.

Key Responsibilities

  • Grounds Maintenance & Estate Services
    • Deliver a professional, value-for-money grounds maintenance service across the estates.
    • Carry out scheduled gardening and grounds maintenance activities, including grass cutting, pruning, planting, weeding, and litter picking.
    • Maintain high standards across communal and external areas, ensuring customer expectations are consistently met.
    • Safely collect and dispose of litter, sharps, and human or animal waste in accordance with company policies and procedures.
    • Transport and dispose of waste appropriately and responsibly.
    • Drive company vehicles between sites, carrying out daily vehicle checks and maintaining vehicle cleanliness.
    • Ensure all gardening equipment and machinery are safe, well-maintained, and stored correctly.
  • Environmental Improvements
    • Support the delivery of planned environmental improvement projects and curtilage works.
    • Undertake risk assessments before commencing planned works.
    • Carry out tasks including:
      • Paving and hard landscaping
      • Building simple walls and structures
      • Creating and replanting beds and borders
      • Turfing and landscaping
      • Fence installation and repairs
  • Environmental Repairs
    • Complete environmental repairs to a high standard.
    • Report repairs beyond the scope of the team to the relevant department.
    • Remove waste, clear communal areas, and maintain estate cleanliness to support public health and safety.
    • Communicate any variations or issues with planned works to management.
  • Health & Safety
    • Work in accordance with all health and safety policies and procedures.
    • Wear company uniform, identification, and appropriate PPE at all times.
    • Complete risk assessments for new and ongoing tasks.
    • Ensure lone working devices and equipment are fully operational.
    • Attend mandatory and role-specific training.
    • Report hazards, defects, and safety concerns promptly.
  • Administration & Customer Service
    • Maintain accurate records, job sheets, risk assessments, and relevant documentation.
    • Order materials and supplies as required.
    • Liaise with customers and colleagues to ensure excellent service delivery.
    • Attend team meetings, supervision sessions, and annual appraisals.
    • Support other departments and operational teams as required.

About You

  • Experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, environmental services, or a similar role.
  • Knowledge of safe working practices and risk assessments.
  • Experience using grounds maintenance equipment and machinery.
  • A proactive and customer-focused approach.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A full UK driving licence.
