We are seeking an experienced Freelance Land Surveyor to join a major civil engineering project based in Northamptonshire. This role will support the delivery of accurate survey information across various construction stages on a large infrastructure scheme.
The Role
Working alongside the Senior Land Surveyor, you will assist in establishing and maintaining the site survey control network to monitor, report, and validate construction progress. Key responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking land, topographic, hydrographic, and measured building surveys
- Using specialist equipment such as robotic total stations and 3D laser scanners
- Processing and analysing survey data using AutoCAD, Trimble Business Center, GIS, and related software
- Preparing survey drawings and technical reports in collaboration with the Senior Land Surveyor
- Presenting survey information to project stakeholders
- Coordinating with Site Engineers to prioritise works, manage design changes, and address deviations or non-conformances
- Liaising with consultants to support inspections and approvals
- Carrying out setting out and as-built surveys
- Completing topographical and engineering surveys, including laser scanning
- Managing the registration and post-processing of point cloud data
- GNSS network surveying, precise traversing, and levelling from primary control
- Supporting and managing drone surveys for earthworks measurement
About You
Key Skills & Qualifications
- HND/Degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, or equivalent
- Previous experience in a similar role within construction or civil engineering
- Experience preparing survey Method Statements and Risk Assessments
- Expert knowledge of Trimble total stations, levels, and GNSS receivers
- Strong AutoCAD skills for producing 2D and 3D drawings
- Proficiency in survey software such as Trimble Business Center
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with solid report-writing ability
- Full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle
- Valid CSCS card
