A leading advanced composites manufacturer is seeking a Metrology Quality Engineer to join their established quality function, supporting the inspection and verification of large, complex composite structures used in aerospace, defence, and marine applications. Working as part of a specialist quality and engineering team, you will play a key role in ensuring dimensional accuracy and compliance across highly regulated production programmes. This is a hands-on role combining advanced metrology, data analysis, and problem-solving, working closely with manufacturing and engineering teams to ensure product integrity from build through to final inspection.
What you'll be doing:
- Developing, maintaining, and optimising CMM inspection programs using PolyWorks
- Carrying out dimensional inspection of complex components and large composite assemblies
- Using CMM systems and portable metrology equipment, including laser trackers, for measurement and alignment of large parts
- Interpreting engineering drawings, CAD models, and GD&T requirements
- Analysing inspection data and producing detailed technical reports
- Leading and supporting MSA studies, including Gauge R&R analysis
- Investigating non-conformances and supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Working closely with manufacturing and engineering teams to improve process capability and reduce variation
- Supporting calibration, verification, and maintenance of metrology equipment
- Ensuring compliance with AS9100 quality management system requirements
- Supporting FAIR / AS9102 first article inspection activities
What you'll bring:
- Minimum 3+ years' experience in CMM programming within a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding and practical application of GD&T
- Experience using PolyWorks software for inspection programming and analysis
- Experience with MSA techniques and Gauge R&R studies
- Hands-on experience with portable metrology systems and laser trackers
- Strong understanding of dimensional inspection and quality engineering principles
- Ability to interpret complex CAD models and engineering drawings
Desirable experience:
- Experience working within an AS9100 aerospace or defence environment
- Background in aerospace, defence, marine, or advanced composites manufacturing
- Experience with: FAIR/AS9102 first article inspections, root cause analysis methodologies & CAPA systems
