A leading industrial services contractor is seeking Basic Scaffolders (NVQ Level 2) to join its growing team on a permanent basis, supporting work on major industrial and engineering projects in Plymouth. The Role
As a Basic Scaffolder, you will be responsible for the erection, alteration and dismantling of scaffolding structures while working as part of an experienced scaffolding team. You will ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently and in line with current industry legislation and best practice. Applicants must hold a valid CISRS Basic Scaffolder Card (NVQ Level 2 or equivalent).
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate knowledge and practical experience of statutory regulations and safety requirements (including SG4) relating to the erection and dismantling of simple scaffolds.
- Understand the types, uses and purposes of scaffold tubes, boards and fittings in common use.
- Correctly handle, stack and inspect scaffold tubes, boards and fittings.
- Founding scaffolds on ground, concrete and steel surfaces.
- Safely install standards, ledgers, transoms and bracing.
- Apply basic tying patterns for sheeted and un-sheeted scaffolds.
- Comply with Work at Height Regulations relating to working platforms.
- Utilise safe access systems including ladders, ladder towers and stairways.
- Inspect, use and operate gin wheels.
- Meet inspection requirements for scaffolding structures.
- Safely erect and dismantle independent scaffolds, putlog scaffolds, towers and birdcage scaffolds up to three lifts high using tube and fitting.
- Select and safely use scaffold materials.
- Install prefabricated beams and scaffold protection fans.
- Erect scaffolds in public areas in accordance with Local Authority requirements.
- Install spurs, rakers, anchor ties and specialist fixings in accordance with current industry standards and TG4 guidance.
- Select and install ties for both sheeted and un-sheeted scaffolds.
- Plan materials and sequence work for scaffold erection and dismantling.
- Inspect basic scaffold structures prior to handover.
- Lead a scaffold gang carrying out scaffolding operations.
You may be required to travel between project locations, with occasional overnight stays where required.

You will work closely with client site representatives, site management, supervisors, scaffolding teams and colleagues.

- CISRS Operative Training Scheme (COTS).
- Current Health & Safety qualification.
