An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced ETCS Systems Engineer to join a leading organisation within the UK rail industry on a contract basis. Working on high-profile ETCS on-board projects, you will play a key role in delivering cutting-edge signalling solutions that support the future of rail transportation.
As an ETCS Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering key systems engineering activities throughout the early stages of the project lifecycle. Working closely with project teams, design authorities and stakeholders, you will ensure customer requirements are translated into robust technical solutions that meet operational, performance and safety requirements.
You will be instrumental in the development of ETCS on-board systems, managing system requirements, technical interfaces, train data and configuration activities while supporting successful project delivery across multiple programmes.
Key Responsibilities- Capture, analyse and manage customer requirements
- Develop and specify system requirements and product requirements
- Produce system and subsystem designs and technical specifications
- Manage technical interfaces between ETCS systems, Train Design Authorities and internal/external design teams
- Capture and validate train data
- Produce and manage ETCS configuration data
- Support system integration activities and subsystem integration
- Analyse and evaluate technical solutions
- Work within configuration management and change control processes
- Support configuration and continuous improvement of integration test rigs
- Produce estimates for systems engineering activities
- Provide regular progress reporting to project stakeholders
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and engineering best practice
- Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and developments within ETCS and railway systems
- Support personal and professional development towards recognised engineering accreditation
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Essential- Degree qualified (or equivalent experience) in Engineering, Science or a related technical discipline
- Strong knowledge of ETCS products and onboard systems
- Experience of ETCS product data and configuration processes
- Excellent understanding of the systems engineering lifecycle
- Proven experience working within the UK rail industry
- Experience working to industry quality and safety standards
- Knowledge of railway technologies and their practical application
- Experience applying railway and ETCS standards
- Ability to manage technical interfaces across multidisciplinary teams
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience working with safety-critical systems
- Understanding of project delivery methodologies
- Experience contributing to process improvement initiatives
This role is primarily based at the clients Derby site, with occasional travel to Chippenham as required. Hybrid working is available however, the majority of the contract will require on-site attendance.
