JOB SUMMARY
A hands‑on leadership role accountable for all production operations to ensure customer orders are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. Responsible for driving performance, compliance, and continuous improvement across all production areas.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead, inspire and motivate section leaders and operators to achieve production targets.
- Ensure risk assessments are in place and all health & safety requirements are fully adhered to.
- Set clear objectives, monitor performance, and conduct regular reviews for all direct reports.
- Manage inductions, training plans, and skills/competency matrices.
- Conduct probation reviews, performance reviews and address underperformance promptly.
- Work with planning to determine required human and material resources.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding and offboarding of production staff.
- Support Sales with quotation inputs including cycle times, capacity constraints and lead times.
- Provide input to Engineering, Process Engineering and QA for manufacturing instructions, processes and quality specifications.
- Ensure the contract review process is executed accurately and on time.
- Provide planning with realistic and efficient production schedules, ensuring strong communication and adherence to the plan within production teams.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally to ensure product and process readiness before production starts.
- Chair daily Tier meetings with stakeholders to align priorities and surface risks (people, equipment, process).
- Report on production status, expected completion dates and any blockers affecting output.
- Monitor production yield and scrap levels, supporting quality and engineering in driving process improvements.
- Raise MCCs where production processes deviate from approved manufacturing instructions.
- Review performance against KPIs and implement improvement plans as required.
- Promote continuous improvement and adoption of lean manufacturing tools and techniques.
- Contribute to cross‑functional decision‑making as part of the operations leadership team.
- Carry out any reasonable ad‑hoc duties requested by management.
KEY DELIVERABLES
- A safe working environment with timely reporting of accidents and near‑misses.
- Delivery performance aligned with the Production Plan.
- Accurate labour bookings within Jolt.
- Audit compliance and strong shop‑floor standards supported by regular 6S audits and actions.
- Minimal line stoppages due to material shortages.
- Accurate Work in Progress levels maintained through effective cycle counting and timely ERP/MRP updates.
KEY METRICS
- On‑time Delivery – Percentage of parts delivered to customer on or before the scheduled date.
- On‑time Material Availability – Percentage of materials delivered on time to meet production schedules.
- Work in Progress Accuracy – Accuracy of inventory counts and alignment with ERP/MRP system data.
- Jolt Labour Booking – Reduction in material waste, scrap and excess inventory costs.
- Production Yield – Percentage of materials meeting quality & reliability standards on 1st inspection.
- 6S score.
- No major non‑conformities and minor non‑conformities resolved within agreed timeframe.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- People management: leadership, directing and coaching.
- Strong communication skills: Verbal and written communication for directing and coordinating internal teams, other departments and management.
- Excellent organisational skills: Able to manage multiple priorities, deadlines and work in progress levels effectively.
- Proficient with ERP / MRP Systems – Knowledge of BoMs, routings, work orders and material control process.
- Problem‑solving skills – Ability to identify discrepancies in inventory records & potential material shortages, raise the concern, provide solution & take action when & where applicable.
