This is a Transformation Senior Project Manager role working in the Industrialisation Programme. The current focus of the team is to develop an integrated 5 year plan with the Operations and Supply Chain Team. This specifically entails supporting the development of a new Work Breakdown Structure, holding Network Diagram workshops, optimising a detailed schedule taking into account risks and opportunities. The ideal candidate will have worked at the early stages of a complex Programme of Work.
- Ensuring on-time and on-budget project delivery of their own projects and of the projects of their team
- Leading the delivery of multiple projects within specific project plans
- Ensure the project plans are kept up to date by the team, with support from the Project Planners
- Manage the regular update of financial forecasts, with support from the Cost Engineers
- Working with key internal stakeholders to understand performance and status of the key deliverables.
- Reporting performance and escalate issues to the Programme Manager.
- Creating a positive and productive work environment both within the project team and across other business functions.
- Document lessons learned and apply these in future work,
- Review and manage project risks and provide actionable mitigations,
- Identify and implement improvements to the organisation's processes and ways of working,
- Ensuring compliance with project management processes and procedures
- Line management of a team of Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers, including but not limited to recruitment, budget and headcount management, performance management, development, and resource allocation.
- Support meetings with external stakeholders as required.
- Be able to prioritise the work within the team and understand the bigger picture is essential.
- Extensive experience in project management to ensure breadth and depth of role.
- The Senior Project Manager would be expected to work with the budget owner to manage an annual budget of approx. £30M (this will vary depending on the scope of delivery).
- Line management of circa 2 to 4 project managers
- The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for helping to achieve successful delivery of the project to time, cost and quality through the application of project management experience.
Project management
Knowledge: The Senior project manager needs to be familiar with project management methodologies and tools. They should also have a good understanding of risk management, budget
management, and change management.
Experience: Should also have experience managing at programme level. This should be demonstrated by previous hands on experience in managing multiple packages of work, complex situations and key stakeholders. There should be previous experience of setting up and delivering complex engineering projects (multiyear, multi £M projects). Experience of working in teams developing schedules and budgets to achieve outcomes including monitoring the performance of a complex project or programme.
Skills: A variety of project management skills, such as planning, scheduling, budgeting, risk management, and change management.
Technical skills: Knowledge of specific software and tools (training can be provided where gaps exist), including Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, ARM, SAP, Excel, Power BI and Power Apps.
