The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor (SQS) to join a major highways project based in Coventry on an initial 18-month contract.
The role has become available following a permanent team member handing in their notice and will involve taking ownership of a significant package within a major highways scheme.
You will be responsible for managing the commercial aspects of the Walls Grey Package, valued at approximately £150-200 million, with around £20 million of works planned over the next 18 months.
The project has already delivered one scheme and is now moving into the second, providing an excellent opportunity for an experienced SQS to take ownership of a substantial and commercially important package.
Key Responsibilities
- Take commercial ownership of the Walls Grey Package within the wider highways scheme.
- Manage approximately £20 million of works over the next 18 months.
- Manage subcontractors and oversee subcontract management throughout the package.
- Provide strong commercial and contractual management across the project.
- Manage and administer an NEC4 Option C contract, ensuring robust cost and commercial control.
- Monitor project costs, forecasts, change, valuations, payments and commercial performance.
- Ensure accurate and timely commercial reporting and forecasting.
- Manage compensation events, early warnings and other NEC contractual processes.
- Work closely with project, engineering and delivery teams to ensure commercial objectives are achieved.
- Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities.
- Ensure the package is administered effectively and in accordance with contractual requirements.
- Provide experienced commercial leadership and support to the wider project team.
Project
The wider project is a major highways scheme, including the realignment of a dual carriageway and removal of an existing roundabout.
The successful candidate will be managing a significant package involving earthworks, drainage and groundworks, so practical experience across these disciplines is essential.
About You
We are looking for a highly experienced SQS who can take ownership of the package and deliver a high standard of commercial management from day one.
You should have:
- Strong experience working on major highways infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience managing significant packages or projects.
- Strong NEC4 experience, ideally including Option C.
- Excellent understanding of NEC administration and commercial processes.
- Previous experience with earthworks, drainage and groundworks packages.
- Strong subcontract management experience.
- The ability to manage costs, forecasts, change and commercial risk effectively.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The confidence and experience to take ownership of a substantial package with limited hand-holding.
Why Apply?
- 18-month contract with a major highways project.
- Attractive rate despite being Inside IR35.
- Hybrid working: 3 days on site in Coventry / 2 days from home.
- Opportunity to manage a significant £20m package within a £150-200m+ project environment.
- Strong exposure to NEC4 Option C commercial management.
- Opportunity to work on a major highways infrastructure scheme.
- If you are an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with strong highways, NEC4 and subcontract management experience, this is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of a significant package on a major infrastructure project
