Urenco are seeking a Construction Manager who will lead and manage construction activities within the UNS Decommissioning Projects, acting as Principal Contractor where applicable under CDM 2015 regulations. This role involves overseeing a team of Construction Supervisors and operatives, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of projects ranging from £50k to £60M.
The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, monitoring, and controlling construction work packages, managing contractor relationships, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental, and security standards including HASAWA 1974, CDM 2015, Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, and Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing Construction Phase Plans
- Managing contract documentation
- Supervising on-site activities
- Acting as the interface with tenant operations and external contractors
- Motivating and developing a skilled, qualified, and experienced construction team
- Deputising for senior project managers as required
- Contributing to continuous improvement of project processes
- Focusing on compliance with UNS Management System and One Capenhurst HSSE standards
- Regular performance monitoring, risk management, and proactive problem-solving
Overview:
- Manage Projects from conception to completion
- Lead and ensure all design activities or physical works successfully deliver all agreed Project deliverables
- Manage design and construction interfaces within the Project
- Manage supply chain ensuring agreed contractual deliverables are achieved on time, within budget and with Zero Harm
- Manage commissioning activities for new plant and equipment
- Sequence all Project works and liaise with nuclear waste engineers to optimise waste disposal solutions
- Ensure compliance with defined safety, environmental, site license requirements and security standards and procedures
- Responsible for all Project Management, technical, CDM required documentation and reports associated with the Project
- Responsible for delivery of compliant safety documentation, Plant Modification Proposals and Quality Plans for the Project
- Responsible for the identification of Project risks and mitigating actions
- Review of contractor’s tender documentation and plans of work during the tender evaluation process
- Liaison with Licensee, Operation, Maintenance, Projects and Tenant oversight functions
- Managing Readiness reviews and Quality Plan through the Project lifecycle
- Manage external specialist planning consultancy to understand Project impact to current planning permission guidelines
- Responsible for ensuring all aspects associated with the relevant Local Authority / Planning Permissions are adhered to
- Responsible for all documents in compliance with Project Management and Change Management processes
- Lead all Project LFE development and monitoring
- Responsible for production of monthly Highlight Reports to UNS Senior Management on project performance
- Responsible for the delivery of weekly / bi-weekly site meetings and ensure the production of accurate records of any discussions and actions
- Ensure detailed site diaries/records are completed
- Responsible for the resourcing (human & physical) control for all aspects of the Project lifecycle
- Responsible for Project funding strategy, sequencing and change management control
- Manage detailed delivery of FEED activities ensuring maximum project delivery efficiency
- Manage all aspects of Key Stakeholders and their expectations throughout Project lifecycle
- Set the highest possible standards of leadership in promotion of HS&E procedures and best practice
- Ensure all HSSE-related documents are kept up to date
- Produce monthly reports
- Ensure event and actions are managed through the REACT system inline with the specified time frames
- Allocate HSSE responsibilities and duties for site personnel
- Ensure effective supervision of contractors
- Compile / review RAMS in support of delivering the SSOW
- Prepare Health and Safety Plans and other supporting documentation as required under CDM2015
- Ensure sufficient SQEP resource is available for safe delivery of work packages
- Contractor Representative Level 1 for multiple discipline contract awards across the UNS portfolio
- Project Manager Certification Level assessment – governed by Project Category (i.e. – CAT1 / 2 / 3)
