Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Solar Installation Project Manager to oversee the successful delivery of commercial solar PV projects across the UK. From initial contract award through to commissioning and final handover, you will take responsibility for ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.
This role requires strong leadership skills, a solid understanding of UK grid connection and regulatory requirements, and proven experience managing subcontractors and cross-functional project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Delivery & Planning
- Lead the full lifecycle delivery of commercial solar PV projects, including rooftop, ground-mounted, and carport installations
- Create, manage, and update detailed project programmes and schedules using Gantt charts
- Coordinate design, procurement, installation, and commissioning activities
- Monitor project progress, risks, milestones, and critical paths to maintain delivery targets
- Ensure smooth commissioning, energisation, and project handover to clients
- Financial & Commercial Management
- Manage project budgets, forecasting, and cost control
- Review subcontractor quotations and raise purchase orders where required
- Track project variations, change requests, and commercial impacts
- Provide regular financial and operational reporting to senior management
- Grid Connection & Compliance
- Support and coordinate DNO grid applications and approvals, including G98 and G99 processes
- Ensure compliance with planning permissions, building regulations, and statutory requirements
- Maintain adherence to MCS standards and BS 7671 Wiring Regulations
- Coordinate commissioning documentation and energisation approvals
- Contractor & Stakeholder Management
- Appoint, manage, and oversee subcontractors, suppliers, and installation teams
- Chair site coordination meetings and client progress updates
- Liaise with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) and external stakeholders
- Build and maintain strong client relationships while managing expectations throughout project delivery
- Health, Safety & Quality Assurance
- Ensure full compliance with CDM Regulations 2015 and company HSE procedures
- Review and approve RAMS documentation
- Monitor on-site health and safety performance and conduct regular inspections
- Ensure QA/QC standards and project quality procedures are consistently maintained
- Carry out pre-start meetings, audits, inspections, and practical completion reviews
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Minimum 3-5 years' project management experience within solar, renewables, or electrical construction
- Strong understanding of UK commercial solar PV systems and installation practices
- Experience managing subcontractors and multiple projects simultaneously
- Knowledge of DNO application and grid connection processes (G98/G99)
- Proficient in MS Project, Excel, and project management platforms
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- SMSTS qualification
- IOSH or NEBOSH certification
- Electrical background with 18th Edition qualification advantageous
- Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline
- Experience integrating battery storage or EV charging infrastructure into renewable energy projects
Working Environment
Hybrid working model combining office, home, and site-based activities across the UK. Regular travel to project locations nationwide. Dynamic, fast-paced environment managing multiple live projects simultaneously.
