Environmental Advisor - construction - main contractor supporting site teams across the North of England - commercial, industrial and residential projects.
Duties include:
- Providing environmental and sustainability support for all members of staff and supply chain partners and reporting on compliance with relevant statutory provisions.
- Carrying out Environmental Inspections – touring the site and assessing the operation as it progresses, ensuring that environmental issues and best practices are being complied with.
- Accompanying the site manager or supervisor and discussing any issues of concern.
- Producing reports on digitised templates for site teams and senior management highlighting areas for action and positive elements of compliance.
- Stopping works and escalating appropriate follow-up actions where necessary.
- Monitoring and ensuring close out of actions raised.
- Monitoring systems of work and the procedures that the Company employs for the recording, monitoring, and assessing of Environmental and Sustainability Standards.
- Discussing forthcoming works and any environmental issues, method statements, risk assessments, procedures, etc., with site management.
- Meeting with supply chain partners to discuss environmental aspects of their works including RAMS reviews.
- Investigating significant environmental incidents and near misses to understand root causes.
- Producing investigation reports for significant incidents detailing circumstances, root causes and providing recommendations to prevent re-occurrence.
- Ensuring relevant Environmental and Sustainability documentation is up to date including policies, aspects registers, notice boards, emergency arrangements and permits.
- Reviewing the Environmental Management Plan with the project team throughout the course of the project.
- Ensuring processes and procedures are in place to collate relevant environmental data for the site including use of resources and identifying trends from inspection/audit reports.
- Identifying environmental and sustainability training requirements for employees.
- Attending relevant SHEQ Meetings with the Group Head of SHEQ, Construction Director, Contracts Managers and the SHEQ Department to discuss any areas for improvement or concerns.
- Consulting with Enforcing Authorities.
Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum five years in a construction-related organisation.
- Member of IEMA.
- Background in compliance with ISO 14001 Management Systems and a background in Sustainability including strategies for working towards Net Carbon Zero and the Circular Economy.
