We are seeking an experienced Environmental & Sustainability Manager to provide leadership, drive best practice, and ensure full compliance across a complex, highly regulated construction environment.
The Role
- You will lead environmental and sustainability strategy on site, ensuring compliance with permits, licences, and regulatory commitments while embedding a strong environmental culture across the project and supply chain.
- This is a high-impact leadership role, working across multidisciplinary teams and Tier 1 contractors on a major construction programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clear leadership to environmental teams and Tier 1 suppliers
- Ensure compliance with all environmental permits, licences, and consent conditions
- Lead and coordinate environmental and sustainability activities across the site
- Drive a high-performance environmental culture across project teams and the supply chain
- Manage environmental risks and ensure mitigation of key environmental aspects
- Engage with regulators, including the Environment Agency, and maintain strong relationships
- Oversee ISO 14001:2015 compliance and environmental management systems
- Lead site inspections, audits, and environmental surveillance programmes
- Develop and track KPIs to drive continuous environmental improvement
- Lead environmental incident investigations and implement lessons learned
- Manage departmental resources, performance, and development of team members
- Ensure adherence to quality standards and project procedures
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders across the project lifecycle
About You
You are a confident leader with deep experience in environmental management on major infrastructure or engineering projects. You bring a strong understanding of compliance, sustainability, and stakeholder engagement in regulated environments.
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven leadership experience managing Environmental & Sustainability teams
- Extensive experience on large, complex, highly regulated construction projects
- Strong knowledge of environmental permits, consents, and compliance frameworks
- Experience across full project lifecycle (construction through to commissioning preferred)
- Demonstrable ability to influence senior stakeholders and supply chain partners
- Experience working with regulators and delivering regulatory commitments
- Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and results-driven approach
Qualifications
- Degree in an Environmental (or related) discipline
- Background in engineering, construction, or technical environments
- Experience in regulated industries (e.g. energy, nuclear, infrastructure) highly desirable
