12 Month Contract Hybrid Working – 1 – 2 days per month on site (ideally) – can offer more remote working with ad hoc visits where required.
The Senior HVAC Engineer will lead the design, integration, and technical assurance of numerous HVAC systems across a complex marine platform. They will apply deep expertise in system performance, capacity assessment, and optimisation to deliver robust, compliant, and customer focused solutions throughout the shipbuilding lifecycle. The role ensures high engineering standards by driving improvements to processes, supporting technical investigations, and providing evidence-based decision making. Strong HVAC and marine/building services systems experience is essential to ensuring system reliability and capability across the platform.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparing specifications and developing HVAC system designs in accordance with project requirements, technical standards, and quality expectations. This includes Heat Load Calculations, Psychrometrics, Pressure Drop Calculations and Single Line Diagrams (schematics).
- Carry out design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure compliance with all applicable standards and design criteria.
- Participating in the development, maintenance, and modification of engineering processes and procedures relating to HVAC distribution systems, ensuring they remain aligned with technical developments, regulatory requirements, and operational needs.
- Carrying out specialist technical analyses and investigations, such as noise and pressure loss calculations, ductwork design optimisation, equipment performance assessments, and root-cause analysis for system faults. Prepare detailed technical reports with recommendations to support problem resolution, system improvement, and enhancement of HVAC capability.
- Supporting the Principal Engineer as a specialist point of contact with customers and/or suppliers on HVAC engineering matters. This includes resolving technical issues, coordinating design intent, reviewing supplier data, and maintaining clear communication of priorities, performance requirements and objectives.
- Providing guidance, mentoring and technical direction to less-experienced team members, ensuring effective task delivery while supporting their professional growth and development within engineering.
Knowledge:
- Experience in engineering or a defence related industry.
- Has worked in typically two phases of the product lifecycle in the defence/maritime industry.
- Has sufficient experience of the total product lifecycle to enable a good understanding of adjacent phases and through life engineering issues.
- Knowledge of processes and tools used in Marine Engineering.
- Experience in Supplier Management.
- Experience writing technical specifications.
Skills:
- Microsoft Office Suite / Autocad / Foran.
- Experience and expertise in marine HVAC systems or Building Services HVAC System design.
- Experience in the design, build, integration, support and operation of Naval ships (desirable).
- Awareness of Life Cycle Management reviews of bids and programmes.
- Awareness of external market and similar industry advancements and developments.
Qualifications:
- Degree qualified in an engineering or other related discipline, would be preferred or relevant experience.
- Meet the requirements for registration as Incorporated Engineer with the Engineering Council and be a member of a relevant Professional Body.
