Aurora Power Consultancy is currently seeking an experienced Power System Studies Engineer to join their growing team in either their Bristol or Manchester office. This is an excellent opportunity to work on high-impact projects across the energy sector, supporting the transition to a more sustainable and resilient power network.
The role will be primarily desk based, with the need for occasional site visits. Candidates should have a MSc or higher in Electrical Engineering, or a related field, and have a good understanding of electrical engineering theory. Knowledge of PSCAD is preferred, but experience in EMTP-RV, EMTP-ATP or similar can also be considered.
The ideal candidate should have 4+ years' experience gained within a consultancy, developer, R&D or similar environment. Candidates should be interested in expanding their technical knowledge in the field of HV design and power system studies and achieving chartered engineer status (CEng).
This role is general in nature and will cover a wide range of studies and design activities, and engineers will be encouraged to broaden their skills. Aurora is a young and expanding electrical consultancy so there will be many opportunities to grow with the company.
Salary depending on experience, but is competitive. Applications from more experienced candidates are more than welcome, and salary will be increased accordingly.
Essential Characteristics- MSc or MEng or equivalent
- Experience in use of PSCAD for power system
- 4+ years' experience in power systems analysis and application
- Experience of EMT simulation and applications for Grid Code Studies
- Knowledge of inverter based generation and/or synchronous machine modelling
- Knowledge of insulation coordination studies
- Knowledge of control system modelling and tuning
- Experience of inverter structure and PPC structure's
- Knowledge of HVDC systems
- Knowledge of protection settings and coordination
