An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Payroll Officer to join a busy organisation operating across the utilities and construction sectors. This role will support payroll operations during a key period of change and systems development. The successful candidate will have knowledge of end-to-end payroll processing, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work within a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities of the Payroll Officer:
- Process weekly and fortnightly payrolls for both site-based and office employees
- Support the implementation of new payroll systems, including testing, data migration, and user training
- Work closely with finance and IT teams to improve payroll processes and reporting
- Prepare and submit P11D forms in line with HMRC requirements
- Support year-end payroll activities, reconciliations, audits, and statutory reporting
- Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation for compliance and audit purposes
- Produce payroll reports and analysis for finance and operational teams
- Ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation and industry-specific payroll practices
- Liaise with HR, finance, and operational managers during project mobilisation and demobilisation phases
Skills and Experience Required:
- Previous payroll experience within a fast-paced environment
- Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements
- Experience using payroll systems such as ADP, PeopleHub, Sage, or similar
- Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with HR and finance systems
- Strong communication skills with a proactive approach to problem solving
Desirable Experience:
- Experience managing payroll across multiple sites or projects
- Knowledge of CIS and contractor compliance within construction environments
